There is absolutely no proof at all. (a book written two thousand years ago doesn't qualify as proof). All I ever hear about is people saying "have faith have faith". So you believe in something just to believe in it? You can have faith in anything that doesn't make it real. All modern day science goes against religion,

Do you believe in god because you are afraid of what will happen if you don't? Do you really think that morals stem from a book that has more moraless actions than most books written today? (Seriously.. Read the old testament.. god is ruthless.)

Think about the world without religion. No religious wars. No hate justified by religion (gay marriage, racism (yes in the 60's christians scanned the bible to find anti-black quotes to justify their hatred), stem cell research). Everything would be dictated by reason and not by emotion.

In a time where everything has advanced so much. We've advanced so much as a species. Why do we still hang on to this primitive ideal?

You may or may not realize it but you, i mean not just you but all of us have emptyness in our soul. And we do not know what that is so we try to fill it with things in the material world such as money, success, love and etc..., I would describe this as "spiritual thirst". We have spritual thirst because we are separated from the father, the creator God and he is not in us. You may be experiencing this spiritual thirst now even if you deny it because people normally do not care about matters they are not interested in. Faith is given by God and it is by his grace.
God chose people to give faith. We can't have faith with our own will. That is why people can't have faith without proof.
If you'd like to have faith, pray to God first and find somone around you or go to church for Sunday worship and talk to the pastor or someone who can tell you about gospel. I truly believe
you will be given faith by God and become a child of God.
Religion has nothing to do with gospel. When people do things humanistic way without gospel, it becomes religion and has no life in it. All the hatred, wars, conflicts, and even religious wars occur because people dont have the gospel.

Because the more scientific knowledge I gain, the more I see how complex the universe is. The circumstances required to be perfect for human life on this planet and the odds of this series of event occuring to make life possible on this planat are astronomical (against it happening). The more I learn, the more impossible it becomes without a supreme being (God) to bring it about. Even the Big Bang and evolution.

Because where did everyone come from. You can't seriously believe in Darwins theory can you? Do you ever think to yourself, hmmmmmm, why are we here? How did we get here? How did everything become to be as it is now? Well answers to all of those questions are in the Bible. Just not everyone believes and that is their own problem. And God is not ruthless, i don't know where you go that idea.

Hmmmm...you pose some pretty good thoughts.
And some of the people replying have some pretty good suggestions.

I don't fear God (or whatever is out there).
I do respect the fact that something bigger than me (than this planet, than this universe) created all this.
Something.

A god, maybe?

I choose Supreme Being...something intangible, incomprehensible and omnipotent.

It (he/she, whatever) has total creative power to make something from nothing.

How else would one explain the origin of life on Earth.

And it (the Supreme Being) has a cosmic sense of humor!
Who (or what) else would have evolutionists and creationists fighting it out over such an enigmatic question!

I believe in God because he is the most powerful of all. Without Him, nothing is possible here on earth. Without Him, you couldn't have been born. It was Him who created you so you better be grateful on that. If you want to go to heaven when the time come that you die, start giving your life to Him and trusting Him come what may. He is always there ready to forgive you whatever sins you have made in this world. If only, you will come to Him! Start doing it now for your own good.

Think on this..... You can't see air, so why do you breathe? I believe in God for the same reason that you apparently don't ; it makes sense to me. I have experienced him in my life so he is very real to me. There are a lot of things in life that science can not explain. So why not trust in God. You have faith in you comment, does that make it anything more than the opinion that it is?

God revealed Himself to me when I searched after Him, my persistence payed off and now I have a connection to a Loving God that you don't know about. If you want God in your life, all you have to do is ask Him, whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved!

I fail to see anything primitive about spiritual knowledge.

Reason without emotion? Sounds like a pretty cold and heartless concept to me. Humans were not designed to be robots, we need emotions like love, without it, all would be lost.

you are correct.
there is no proof.

but it seems like you're coming at this from a place that isn't about seeking truth.
you may really want to know why people believe in God, but this comes off as you trying to say, "there is no God so you should not believe it anything."
so i don't think you're going to get many intelligent answers.
but if you really, REALLY want to have a conversation about this to find out why one person (me) believes in God, i'd be happy to help you understand my view.
but if you're really just here trying to tell simpletons that they shouldn't believe in God, most of the answers you get will not be intelligent.

i admire faith, to believe something you cant see or prove and withstand all the cynics, like yourself,(no offence intented) its something great, in no way primitive, well at least in my opion. and a world without religion wouldnt be better, people would find something to fight about!

p.s. lets not question science, cause religion v science, religion would lose!
