My husband is deployed and I have the military power of attorney. I am planning to visit my family overseas w/ our little daughter, will the Military power of attorney be enough to take child abroad, or do I need to have Notorized authorization for traveling with minor from my husband?

Documents Adults Should Carry When Traveling Out of the U.S. with Children Under 18

In an effort to keep children safe while traveling internationally, many governments have instituted procedures at entry and exit points that require parents to show documentary evidence of their relationship to all accompanying minors (children under age 18).

Additionally, many countries require that children under 18, when traveling without one or both parents/guardians, carry notarized permission of the parents or legal guardian not present for the child's travel.

Here are the documents that are required or recommended for parents/guardians and minor children:

An original birth certificate issued by a state, city or county (Hospital birth certificates are not acceptable);

A certified copy of a birth certificate issued by a city, county or state and which has a raised seal;

The original or certified copy of the Consular Report of Birth Abroad (FS-240);

The original or certified copy of the Certification of Birth Abroad ? (DS-1350);

The original or certified copy of the court Adoption decree;

If one or both parents have legal custody of the child, carry the original or a court-certified copy of the court order granting custody or guardianship of the child;

If the child has a foreign birth certificate not in English, take a translation into English and the original or certified copy of the birth certificate

If you have full custody of the child, you don't need anything. I think that the power of attorney should work for you. However, I think your best option is going to be to call around and check on this.

In this situation I think it would be fine. But is better to confirm with the source than to be sorry.

Have a great time!

I recenlty traveled just to Canada and needed a written note from my wife (wasn't notarized or anything) to give to the Customs ( i think) or maybe the airline people to say i had permission....i thought this was crazy, because how did they know that i didn't forge it....but to try to answer your question on my experience: No, you shouldn't need anything other than the POA...and by the way tell your husband to keep up the good work for the good ole US of A!!!
