"mon petit chou" ="my little cabbage" or "my brussel sprout"

I was wondering myself why "cabbage" would be a term of endearment.
This is what I found.
In many languages, words referring to food become endearments. In English, we often use words that bring to mind sweet foods. In some parts of the United States, people are even called "sugar." In French, endearments are often more down to earth. One might call a loved one "my little cabbage." A very nice and obliging person is also called "a cabbage," as in the example, "Please be a dear and get me my glasses." Would a city-dweller have created such an endearment?
Also this little vegetable, the cabbage, holds an important place in mythology, history, and medicine. When Dionysus caught Lycurgus trampling grapes, cabbages formed from the tears Lycurgus cried as he await punishment. In ancient times, it was believed that the cabbage cured drunkenness. In modern times, cabbages has been held to be of benefit in treating exposure to radiation.

My French teacher was from Paris. "mon petit chou" literally means my little cabbage. Some people refer to brussel sprouts as little cabbages.. She also informed us that "Qu tu est din don" means ....you are a turkey. I took French in the late 60's and calling someone a turkey was not "in" at that time...later it became a common phrase.

Pretend you're French. Don't you think it would be strange to them to hear us Americans calling each other "Cupcake" and "Cutie PIE" and other strange things? Brussel Sprouts are probably a food people really like over there. I personally hate them.

Same reason calling a kid a "cute little booger" is funny in America, but if you say that to someone in Austailia (mind you, still in English) you are going to get slapped by their mama cause it's like saying cute little "focker."
It's just slang, nothing more.

Becuase, people in America call their lovers weird things like Cupcake, Honey, which are also food names

because brussel sprouts smell like foul feet and foul feet smell like cheese and the Frech love cheese.

Its because the french smell so they picked a smelly veg for the saying
