Aside from it's a money making scheme?

I don't think printers have EVER come with cables, even before there was USB, you never got a paralell cable, no serial cable, you always had to buy one seperately. My guess would be there once was so many different ways you could hook one up and so many different cable lengths available that they just didn't ship with one. From the printer company's perspective, it adds cost and not everyone needs a cable. Many may have one already from an old printer.

It's because most of the people already have one, remember every time a printer gets broken, you just discard them, that same usb cable can be used with the new printer.

Some actually do, but usually they are not included because either the printer company does not manufacture them, or they just want to make you buy one.

because the manufacturer doesn't want to spend more money on the cable and he blames you for not having one from a previous device. Because they're cheap...
