I completely agree with RabbitMage.
The theme tanks are usually too small for anything more then a Betta and seem rather cheaply made in my opinion.
So you could buy a 10 gallon starter kit (sells for $49 at Petsmart, but on sale for $39 right now I think), and then you could buy barbie theme decorations, pink gravel, ect ect ect.
You could even use the small plastic barbie dolls (kind of like the ones given out at McDonalds as decor). No the ones with real hair, the all plastic ones. Just make sure you wash it very well, or perhaps even place it in very hot water as well to kill all germs off of it - even if it is new. Any small all plastic toy would work as a decor, as long as it sinks. (Cake toppers work well sometimes)
This is a Barbie cake topper: http://www.birthdaymonster.com/images/products/151.jpg
If it won't sink, many pet stores sell plant sinkers add ons.

A lot of those novelty aquariums are far too small to house any fish at all.
My reccomendation would be to buy a 10 gallon starter kit (pretty much anywhere that sells fish tanks sells these) and get get the decorations seperately. You could get colored gravel..maybe a mix of pink, purple and white. A few colorful plastic plants, and get a castle decoration to go in a middle.
Mollies, platys, and guppies are all colorful tropical fish and generally pretty hearty. You could have up to five of then in a ten gallon, and they would be a lot of fun for your daughter to watch.
To prevent heartache, whatever you do, DO NOT forget to cycle the tank and DO NOT BUY GOLDFISH FOR IT.

In my experience with aquariums, a more natural approach is better for the fish. They will last a lot longer in a natural environment, but they do have such aquariums at Wal - Mart. You can check out their website to get an idea of whats available.

I have a purple "Little Mermaid" tank that I've had forever. Haven't seen any like that for quite a while but I'm sure they exist.

Try Ebay - if it's not there, it probably isn't made.
