Ultramarathoners can exceed 50 miles without stopping. Cavin Woodward's 50-mile best of 4:58:53 is under 5:59 per mile pace, and Don Ritchie's 100-mile world mark of 11:30:51 (under 5:59 per mile pace) Jose Cortez set the American road record for 100 miles at age 19 with a 12:54:31.

The way your question is phrased is the problem. Running a marathon doesn't necessarily make one a marathon runner. A novice may run for 25 minutes and need to stop and walk for 5. An experienced "Marathoner " may not need to rest until the race is finished.

The very good runners never take a break or a rest. Some people walk entire marathons, which I consider "taking a rest" throughout. I usually have to take a few minutes of walking breaks in the second half of marathons.
