It seems that people in professional sprts are expected to be held to a higher standard than others in society. True, they get paid more, but so do movie and music starts and nobody asks them what they are doing with their free time. If they want to ride motorcycles with their helmet off, why not let them?

If you are asking whether they should be expected to follow the law of the land or face punishment, the answer is yes. If you are asking whether they should be held to a higher standard, then no.....they're only human.

I don't know about a specific incident like the one you refer to. There may also be a contrat obligating the athlete to behave in a certain way during "off hours", in which case, he signed the contract, he accepted the money, he should be responsible.

hey are u talking about roethlisberger? i am from pittsburgh! anyway, i think he should wear his helmet, but not because he's a professional athlete, but because he has common sense. he would have avoided this whole thing had he used a helmet. i think it's stupid to make it a choice and not mandatory.

But back to your originial question, no i don't think they should be held to higher standards, but they should keep in mind that they are looked at more than regular people, and have a responsiblity to be good examples.

If they break the law, so be it. Punish.
You want to fuss about them getting in trouble and a "higher standard", fine. My actual experience in such matters is that they get away with almost anything on a daily basis.
