Friend,
I believe it's human nature to attract attention. It helps with our ego and increases our chances for procreation. (See He-Who-Gets-Noticed-Gets-Plenty). Myspace banks on this very idea. It's a stalker's wet dream. And we know both men and women love to stalk, it's in our nature. Just like how instant messenger has given us a safety shadow to do stuff we normally wouldn't do in real life, myspace gives people a chance to interact differently. Be more risque. Sure, it's a great way to still connect with friends, I'll admit. But it's so gawd-damn popular because everyone wants attention. We want people to hear our sob stories and want people to know who we're shagging. As for me, I stay away from Myspace (I hate Tom's guts). Can't believe he was a Berkeley student, I should be ashamed. College students, stick with facebook.

it started out as a site just to keep in contact with friends + it has pics...in the beginning there a lot of nude pics and I think that got many people on. Now it seems to be a great place to talk to friends who you haven't seen in a while, or ones that live far away. Many also use it as a popularity contest, because they may not have many friends but on the net they have many. I like that I can change the look of my page and look for others.

Because you can keep in contact with people far away without the enormous phone bill. Then you have the people who are there to find new friends. There's the pedophiles out looking for young girls to prey on. Everybody who's anybody is on myspace.

Well its a great place to find old friends. I use mine to keep in touch with people that I don't see very often. I am also really interested in music. They have all sorts of undiscovered artists that you can't find any place else really. Then there are the videos that people have on there. I can spend so much time looking at that website it is ridiculous. It is just too addictive.

MySpace is so popular because it relies on viral marketing. By this I mean if you sign up, you tell your friends to sign up. Then your friends sign up, then they tell their friends. It keeps going.
Also, people like to share their experiences with eachother and to meet people outside their local area. From MySpace, this is all possible.

I believe its so popular right now because of the news. It has gotten so much publicity lately that everyone wants to know what the big deal is.

Because it's a GREAT way to keep in touch with friends and family (even though other people use it for other reasons, not EVERYONE on there is that stupid). It's also a great way to show off you're personality with being able to design it anyway you want and put whatever you want on there.
