because it comes across as pretentious. if you were that secure with your looks you wouldn't feel the need to make sure everyone knows it and try to get validation.

Are you talking about being hot as in temperature? That's fine. Too call yourself "hot" as in thinking you look good...well that's just stupid actually. Maybe little boys dig it, but not a man. It's classless, vain and actually shows that you are insecure with who you are (or whoever we are talking about) and you have issues with who and what you are inside, so instead you're focused on the outside. Calling yourself attractive is better, but hot? Only teeny boppers or girls that have yet to mature do that.

It's strange, but we believe it when somebody says that Person X is hot, but we don't believe it when Person X says it themselves. That's one reason why actors have agents; we tend to believe someone else's opinion.

A good response when someone says you're hot is "thank you."
