Superstition only proves the power of the mind. If you believe it to be true, it will self-fulfill. If don't believe, it has no power over you.

Most superstitions come from other countries that have been passed along through the years. If a person wasn't raised around superstitions then of course they will think it is stupid or silly. My mother is a filipino so we have alot of superstitions but I only believe or follow some because it is how I was raised. That doesn't make me stupid though.
It's like being raised with different religious beliefs and there are alot of highly educated people that have certain superstitious beliefs, like a business man with itchy palms believing that it means he'll have a lucrative day or a ball player wearing certain socks because everytime he does he hits a homerun. You may not understand their way of thinking and you may not like it but it is their belief so respect them and snicker when they leave the room.

it is pretty much self explanatory

# Superstition is a set of behaviors that are related to magical thinking, whereby the practitioner believes that the future, or the outcome of certain events, can be influenced by certain specified behaviors. The idea of "good luck" and "bad luck" gives rise to many superstitions, such as the belief that it is bad luck to wear gold and silver together.

I love it when people make the comment," I don't believe in superstition, I have God looking out for me." Right... Please explain to me what the difference is between believing something bad will happen to you if you walk under a ladder or believing something bad will happen to you if an invisible diety that no one has ever met gets mad at you. To be perfectly clear, I'm not saying that God doesn't exist. I'm just saying that you can't prove he does any more than a superstitious person can prove what they believe. But it IS what they believe, so respect it.

I do not believe in superstition; however, I have found it very entertaining to watch others who are.
