Used to work for a charity that regularly sent kids to Lapland.
Having regularly had to deal with the elves in his press office, I can assure any children reading this that Santa is very definitely real.

I made sure that my boys, now 17, 16, and 10 yrs old did not believe in some fat white guy coming into our homes while we were asleep to give them presents. Me and my husband work too hard during the year to give all the credit to some stranger that will only come when they are sleep and have been good. We love our kids whether they have been behaving good or not. Have you seen the way some kids scream with pure terror when they are "made" to sit on Santa's lap? These are the same kids who believe in Santa! Why are they so afraid of someone so "pure and good"? They've heard only good things about this jolly sweet old man. Don't you think kids can be traumatized WHENEVER they find out the truth about dear ol' St. Nick? Santa Claus is a big American lie!!

Have you ever wondered why people seem so happy at Christmas time.Even though it is winter the world seems to brighten up a bit. Families that have nothing all of a sudden have the means to get presents.Dreams start to make sense, Sometimes even miracles happen in those days around Christmas. How do you explain all this? This is the spirit Of Santa Clause. The year that the twin towers were destoyed they had a beautiful story on TV of a baby that was born either on or just before christmas his dad had died in the towers. But his life will go on in his child,And that was the time that year that I finally started to believe that we really would be alright. So Believe and Dream because he is real.

Hmm... I think it all depends on how you were raised. I wasn't raised in the U.S. and my parents neither told me about the existence or inexistence of Santa Claus or of any of the fairytale characters for that matter. However, they did give me a lot of books, all of them were of different views, beliefs, themes, goals, etc... in other words, the books I read did not have the same types of characters and stories.
All my parents told me when they gave me those books were that 1) Books and stories people write are very powerful, they can make you believe and/or destroy your beliefs, so it's my choice to decide, 2) I should pay "very close" attention to each book/story I read because even though the stories might be completely different, all have a similar message, and 3) Imagine, don't just picture.
But I think rather than telling them that Santa is real or not real when asked, one may want to try and ask the child what s/he believes. If the kid cannot decide for him/herself, might as well tell him/her the truth. It's always a better policy than to lie.
Lastly, one suggestion I'd like to give you is, when you believe in something, or someone, ask yourself "why" first, and how "important" that particular belief is.

There is not a thing wrong with having dreams.
I'm fifty five years old, and I still believe in Santa. I believe that there is a Spirit in the world, especially at Christmas time, that affects people who have open hearts...and that spirit is Santa. He also goes by the name of Comforter, sometimes. During the Christmas season, alot of people need a Comforter. Of course, He is available all during the year. But, there is still a little girl in me that knows that He is especially active at Christmas time!
Please, world...don't kill this little girl's dreams!

You're quite old enough to distinguise between the truth and a dream. A child may be a hurt a little by hearing Santa isn't real. But if they are old enough to understand it the truth must be told to them. And you must stop dreaming too, Santa is not there its just a silly babish thing!

Nope!! I do believe that children are innocent and have the ability to dream so allow that for as long as u can because once their innocence is taken by some idiot adult then that's it..I mean easter bunny, santa, the grinch (jj) but seriously let the kid dream it is no skin off ur back..as for the person that said that her and her husband work all yr to give some credit to some fat guy or whatever you wrote-stop being so self absorbed and go back to your childhood and see if you are being right..get a grip..don't blame ur kids just because you live paychk to paychk-loser

Well Baby Angel, I'd answer this way:
You wonder if Santa is "real"? Let's start by seeing how many people don't know who you are talking about. It seems to me that everyone knows who Santa is!
Every year, at Christmas time, millions upon millions of people help Santa to see that wonderful gifts and Christmas joy are delivered to deserving kids. And every year, many more millions of gifts are delivered in Santa's name to poor children who would otherwise have a joyless Christmas.
Some people might say that Christmas is not about Santa Claus...it's about celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. I say that Jesus would not agree. He wants us to be joyous and happy. And He wants us to help others who are in need.
Santa Claus is certainly real. In the spirit of Christ's teaching, more happiness is delivered on Christmas day by Santa Claus and his willing helpers than on any other day...
