Remember when women had no rights? (in America) Remember when blacks had no rights?(America again) Now we are in a time when Gays have no rights. They can't adopt children, or get married. That is discrimination. What rights do the government have to deny people from living free in a free country. It seems to be religous to me. Wasn't this country founded by people running from a country that's doing the same thing this one is now?
What are your veiws?
I'm open to anything.

They are both foolish, close-minded views of the world, and even if you still feel that way, people need to learn to accept people for who they are.

Because laws banning something just because that is how they are IS wrong (not to mention unconstitutional.) For example, those who were racist puts laws in place not giving blacks the same rights as everyone else. Now they rightfully have all the rights back.

Same with homosexuals. Some want laws against any sort of civil union for them. Eventually, hopefully, this phase will pass. While I'm not gay, who am I to say that I can be in a binding relationship, recognized by the government, but homosexuals can't? That's not fair, is it?

Eventually, this will all pass. I just hope we, as a country, don't make the same mistakes again.

Homophobia and racism have hate and fear in common. There are still racists out there that hate black people and raise their kids to do the same (don't think they could handle being told that Adam & Eve and Noah were all black). For many years, woman (even today by those same southern men and Middle East cultures) are still low class citizens. Over time, (very quickly by historical standards) our country has, by law and majority, overcome such fears. It is only a matter of time (within the next decade or so) that Homosexuals earn their rights along with women and blacks.

Gays have plenty of rights so don't make blanket statements if you're looking for intelligent discourse.

The gay community is not looking for "rights" they are seeking the benefits and entitlements that come with the institution of marriage. The entitlements that are granted to heterosexual couples were fought for and won by labor unions or through legislation and they were based on need. Spousal health insurance was granted for wives because they were staying home and raising the kids - society-at-large decided they needed to be covered and supported them by granting benefits. Same with social security.

Gays, by and large, do not have the same NEEDS as heterosexuals (no children) and, therefore, do not require the same benefits. As an example, EVERY gay couple I know that has lasted more than a few years, has consisted of one partner who holds down a traditional, steady job with benefits while the other partner has had a "soft-money" career, ie Massage Therapist, hairdresser, waiters - all jobs with cash payments that cannot be taxed and/or traced. What the gay community is seeking is to make sure those soft-money folks can tap into social security through their partner without ever paying into it.

Marriage is a tradition steeped in religious history and, since liberals (of which most gays are) scream about separation of church and state, they should not be clamoring for the government to recognize thier unions.

FEAR is the biggest thing that homophobia and racism have in common. People are afraid of others who are different. This fear has been around as long as people have.

Religion seems to be the most popular reason for marginalizing gays.

Religion was used to keep slavery and to keep women out of the voting booth in the past.

This country basically has two choices: repeal/equalize all laws & legal and economic benefits to equally apply to gay and straight people, or watch as each one of those laws and benefits are eliminated as being discriminatory. Discrimination is our present, but equality before the law is our future.

You seem to be comparing apples to oranges. I don't think that gay people have ever been restricted in their rights to vote or own land like women and blacks. Also, I don't know of any law that gives heterosexuals more rights that homosexuals. We are all allowed to do and have all the same things.

We aren't a free country! The Fascist have taken it over and the country is full of neo-cons that are homophobes!

What they have in common is discrimination against a class of people!

there is no difference, either way soemone is hating someone else just cause of their beliefs or who they are..

Homosexuals should have all the rights as any one else, but religion blinds your president.. Remember what he said a few years ago, God talk to him in his dreams.

They discriminate against people based on certain characteristics that they have in common- i.e., skin color, sexual orientation, without focusing on the content of their character..

How about this? Women are born women. Blacks are born black. Gays are born straight and choose to be gay. No special rights given for choices last time I checked.
