Hard drive space, processor speed, memory size, they are all larger now than I would have considered 10 years ago. My car computer is linked wirelessly with my home and office for seemless transition of maps, music, email, and telephone. How far will technology take us ? what do you think will be the standard run of the mill in 10 years? or as a more whimsical notion 100 years?

The possibility's are extensive, what we do know is that the current speed of cpu's are reaching their limit for the silicon form so to get past that speed barrier the cpu must be redesigned and reinvented. Storage is going to grow with the introduction of the blueray disks, which will lead to bigger programs, which in turn will lead to bigger hard drives. I would see more systems running multiple hard drivers perhaps in Raid but most likely in JBOD until they can develop a hard disk that can run faster and store more. I also see the connectivity between devices becoming easier, so you could chat or browse the Internet from any location and transfer data that follows you as you move from system to system, something like a universal logon that gives you a remote connection to your personal files no matter what or who's computer you sign on to. That's only in the next ten years.

In 100 years, you will have mechanical "life" that is virtually indestinguishable from "human." See the Cylons in the aweful new version of Battlestar Galactica. That is what it'll look like. If technology continues advancing as it has been doing, you will have self aware machines.

Right now computers can do one thing at a time, but I saw a show about 5 years ago that explained how computers could make millions of decisions at once if they could use biology.
