Because they're finally getting around to telling us the truth. Iraq under Saddam was a more liberal part of the Arab. In Saudi Arabia, women are now getting the right to vote and drive. In Saddam's Iraq they held cabinet positions. Saddam had a secular society in the midst of theocracy. He gave the women the right to divorce their husbands. To vote. To drive. To go about with the requisite clothing.
But now? All those rights are being fought for again. And the women are losing.

First, I want to start with a quote by Simon Wiesenthal who was a Holocaust Suvivor and a Human Right Activist (1908-2005) who said "The Allies do not seek to conquer Iraq but rather Iraq but rather to confront a dicator who has used Weapons of Mass Destructions and committed geoncides against his own people. Adolf Hitler come to power in 19933, but for six years the world did not act. Has he been taken seriously then, the lives of innocent millions may have been spared."
Second, I believe that Saddam Hussien had to remove from office and only the United States of America and the United Kingdom had what it took to remove Hussien and his regime out of office since the United Nations were to afriad to go after Hussien and his regime and Hussien consistiantly LIED to the United Nations. I once heard on the News Show The 700 Club that there are Iraqi's who are grateful that George W. Bush (and Tony Blair to a lesser extent) put their job on the line so that they could have freedom and a chance to democracy.
Finally, I am a believer that Democracy will happen in Iraq. Look at the United States of America. After the Continential Army defeated the strongest and most powerfulest military in the world, the British Empire. If the Continential Army lost the American Revolution, the history of the world would have been altered forever. It took the United States of America at least a decade to develope into a country and another decade to develop a strong constitution and today, the United States of America is the Only Country in the World (That I am aware of) that has not changed its government since the year 1800 and the United States had not help or assistance from any other nation states in the World. The only difference between the start of democracy in Iraq and for the United States of America is that the United States of America had no assistance and Iraq has assistance from all over the world.

Afghanistan brought down the Soviet Empire and it could bankrupt us. Tribal factions will be fighting for power in Afghanistan 1000 years from now no matter what we do or say.
We will leave Iraq soon. Either the new Iraqi government will stand or the country will fall into civil war. If civil war breaks out we can't stop it with 130000 troops, so we Will leave. If the government stands they will ask us to leave so they will have legitimacy.
The war is a mess and there is plenty of fault to go around. Slogans like "Bush Lied" don't help. I did not vote for Bush but I also don't forget that Democrats in congress voted for the war. The entire issue is complicated, I think some military action was justified. I just hate that the war was bungled by Rumsfeld and he is still in office.

There just are NO guarantees in life. Would you rather Rice have lied?
We are most certainly not getting kicked out of Iraq. Did you miss the news the past week? We got the second most wanted terrorist in the world and some of his closest friends!
Bush is a politician, so he may exxagerate a bit here and there, but he did not lie us into war.

I agree that we were partly hoodwinked into going to Iraq because of the weapons of mass destruction....since there were apparently NONE!!! However, I also agree with Rice (as much as this hurts to say this, because, frankly, I DON'T LIKE HER) that the price we pay for the chance to start democracy in a place where women can't even have DRIVER'S LICENSES or GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT is well worth the price (this comiong from a 1st Gulf War Vet, not your average citizen)....as for the "chance" of success, well, I whole-heartedly believe in the fighting men and women of our US armed forces to get the job done!!!

Please get over your depression. Negative thinking like this and confusion over facts is never a good thing and can lead to other complications. I know delusion is hard to get over, but do consider these facts:
Iraq is making tremendous progress----in many respects it is country mired in stone age, but yet, within 2 years after the overthrow of its tyrant, it elected a cabinet, wrote a constitution and is turning its natural resources back on. Do you know how long it took us Americans to do ALL of the above in the 18th century---about 11 years.
Hope you feel a little better now. If not, you can vent, because that is a good escape for pent up emotions, but let others do the important work.

As you stated lies ,manipulation plus greedy self interests are the hallmarks of this so called war. Democracy and retaliation are the carrots being consistently in the faces of the American public and the world at large.Be the change. Peace.

It's all part of the George Bush and republican experience here in America, remember Bush IS the "decider". Shoot first, ask questions later pretty much sums up the mentality of the criminal Bush administration. You're right, It's BS of the highest proportions :(
