best program is 'Nero', it's the easiest i have ever used. then u can try also 'Dr. divx', which is not bad but as it's named... working the best on 'quick time show' files converting and divx.

I have tried a bunch of video editing programs. The best I've seen for home usage is Pinnacle Studio. They offer $30 and $50 versions. Check the features to see what you need.
Pinnacle is great for simple jobs. But if you're doing serious multi-camera editing, you'll need something better.

try roxio easy media creator, or final cut express, i think imovie is good too, but i don't really use it that often, my fave is roxio
