The point of Yahoo! Answers isn't points; it is for learning. Points do nothing. Who cares? The purpose of Yahoo! Answers is to ask other people questions and to get answers about opinions, technology, the media, and other topics from a variety of sources.

Well, why did you just ask that question? You want to know an answer. As to those people who ask dumb questions (yes there is such a thing) like "do you think I should go out with this boy Sam?" they probably don't care about the points. What do points mean anyway, who cares if you have the most points. That shouldn't be your incentive for answering questions. You should answer questions to benefit those who need teaching.

Because this is a good forum to receive a variety of answers from a very diverse cross section. It allows you to see how ones opinion can differ from one aprt of the world to the next. So if you are truly curious it allows you to get the feedback you desire. So build up those points and ask those questions.

i think the reason most people do it is to get real answers rather than pre-written answers you can find on the web :)

Sometimes you want to know something...and you can't find it on the internet...even Ask.com or google search doesn't always bring up the answer you are looking for...and people are helpful when it comes to answering these questions.
