Is todays youth so disengaged as to what is going on in the world today?

I seem to remember the last major war we were in, students on campuses around the country were engaged at what was going on, and voicing their opinions, protesting in the streets, etc.

Has technology such as cell-phones, e-mail, taken the backbone out of our young people who SHOULD be leading the way...

Possibly they felt more inclined to protest because people weren't flying jumbo jets into skyscrapers back then.

The war today stems from a direct attack on the U.S. (more similar to WW2, where protesting was unheard of). Citizens, young and old, recognize this distinction from Vietnam. Also, I believe that most people realize that whether or not they agree with the war in moral terms, our soldiers who have no choice are getting RPGs shot at them everyday and deserve our support. If for no other reason than they are our defenders, friends, family, and countrymen. It would make more sense to protest the torture, indiscriminate murders, and terrorist activities that have been, and are still being, committed by the opposing side.

There are 4 possible answers
1. They don't care enough to protest
2. They are intelligent enough to see that pulling out now would be stupid and a failure
3. You aren't paying enough attention and there are students protesting (most likely answer)
4. The students are coming to places like Yahoo answers to protest which is a wate of time and effort as this doesn't get their protests heard at all.

Why should they protest? They'll just wind up in jail and have to grab their ankles. You can't really get anything done with a protest anyway. It makes for a quick media blitz and then it's forgotten. The guys in D.C. don't give a damn about what the peasants think. They SAY they do, but they don't. They only care about their agendas and being fat cats. Enjoy.

Are you kidding? Did you not read about the students at UC Santa Cruz throwing rocks at Army recruiters, slashing their tires, and holding up offensive protest signs?

Although there aren't many protests on campus or completely student run, students are instead participating in larger scale protests.

We're all broke from cell phones, computers, and school. We have to work too much to pay for it all and don't have time.
