will we just have to exept them or will they try to destroy every single human being? There is a study that demonstrates that in 2080 robots and computers will be more intelligent than human beings...isn't that scary?

Good Question-Can robots replace humans?

Space is a very dangerous place, especially for astronauts doing EVAs (Extra-Vehicular Activity - NASAs term for spacewalking). So, people might ask themselves, why dont we replace humans with robots?
There is no atmosphere to protect astronauts and their spacecrafts from the cruel environment of space. The temperatures can get as high as 300F (about 150C) in the sunlight and 200F (about 130C) in the shade. If a human were exposed, the lack of pressure could cause bursting blood vessels. Micrometeoroids and space debris traveling at high speeds can penetrate human skin and thin metal. Other environmental factors include high-energy particles from the Sun, and radiation. In order to perform an EVA, an astronaut has to wear a spacesuit in order to protect himself from this environment, and spend a lot of time in preparation for EVA....n 1997, two astronauts spent 6 hours in EVA with a mission to catch a 3,000-pound, slowly spinning satellite with their own hands. The question is, why do we risk human lives, and thousands of dollars of equipment for protecting their lives, in order to perform a single EVA repair mission? Why not just use robots? Then, humans could stay in a protected environment controlling those robots. Robots would be like mobile shuttle arms.

Now what are some advantages of having robots instead of humans performing EVAs? Robots don't need spacesuits. Robots don't need to spend a lot of time in preparation for EVA. If a meteoroid penetrates through the metal, the robot would not die, but instead be repaired. If a robot gets too far away from the spacecraft, it can be brought back by smaller jets, or it could be let to burn in the Earths atmosphere. A few people would argue that robots couldnt replace humans, because of the complexity of human chores. The shuttle arm and the new arm on the future ISS are two robotic components that prove that robots can replace humans in some chores. Can we make these components a little bit smaller and make them detachable, and help protect our astronauts from the long EVA repair missions?

What will be the role of astronauts then? Astronauts could, besides doing various scientific and technological experiments on board of the spacecraft, control the robots from inside the protected environment. Also, if there are situations that robots cannot handle, humans can always handle them.

Think about it, this is a good idear and thanks for this question, because can open our minds about this type of matter.
Thanks!

Didn't you see the Terminator movies? And what is this study you speak of? Do you believe ever study you read? Because there was also a "study" done in 1951 that said by the year 2000 we'd all be driving around in our flying cars. Where are these flying cars they so expertly anticipated? 2080 is only 74 years away, no robots will be out of our control.

if we are talking about Artificial Intellingece than one could only say that there are many different possibilities...many people here say robots can't think,so I will assume that your question concerns sentient beings, and not just a programmed "moving tools",for you mention the word intelligence...
they will become smarter(since their learning speed and capacity will by far exceed ours-look at contemporary pcs)
and might decide to eradicate human kind, wipe it out from the face of this planet-if we don't do it ourselves first...we have to think i guess, whether what agent Smith in Matrix was right or not:are we really a plague on this planet or not?My opinion is that we have proved to be more than a plague, for a plague usually goes to one species, whereas we humans have affected almost everything living on this planet...which of course raises another question:do humans deserve this planet?what would we do if we encountered a species we considered to be lower than ours?would we allow it to keep on existing, given the fact that it is dangerous for everything around it,just as we are?
then,on the other hand, robots could be our salvation, for they could be used to do all the work we now do,and thus they would give us a chance to devote some more time on our own evolution, not having to worry about our survival anymore...but i think, that what will happen is that which we will make out of the situation-after all,A.I. can be a perfect tool in our hands or the very tool of our destruction, and this depends on our awareness,mentality,evolution...+even if we accept the fact that they are programmed unthinking peace of hardware(but still with the immence brain capacity and learning abilities),we have seen more than once what could come out of a "controlled" experiment/project(look at chernobile)...
p.s. I am not a pesimist, only a realist and I'm trying to objectively analyse your question...

Depends on what you mean by intelligent. A machine can ony work if it has input. While robots and computers may be able to spout out more facts than you can you have to ask can a machine love or comprehend ethics? Basically can a machine be a human, well what makes one human?

Hopefully, while man is still more intelligent, the computers being built will be friendly to humans. At least, we hope that there is not a rebel robot out there.......

it will never happen--robots only know what they are programmed to do--nothing less, nothing more. The truth of the matter is--we are already capable of building a robot that can think, act and make decisions that a human can--So why havent we? We dont want to--is why---

After watching one minute of Jerry Springer, I think it will be a lot sooner than 2080. But I don't feel that a Terminator type of revolution would occur.

that's impossible seeing as humans program computers. Secondly, our brains con comprehend more data then all of the computers on America put together, so that will be a longgggggggggg time from now if it could ever happen.

I've been on so many sci-fi adventures over this thing. My honest thought is that humans will always prevail because of our ability to rapidly adapt and problem solve.

Here's some fun info on that topic: http://www.mobilerobots.com/ethicalRobotics.html

Well think about this who made the computers to begain with? Who wires the computers? what happens to a computer when lightening strikes it like it did my neighbors computer? what happens to computer when the power is out and the power source is gone? who programs the computers? And further more----------- computers have flaws, flaws flaws. what you said probably wont happen. I do think they will be a powerful tool in the future tho.
