There's a debate and I'd like your opinion. Do you think children should be aware of their parents financial situation whether it be good or bad?
Please answer yes or no and give an explanation for your answer.

Some say no. Because children should feel secure.

Some say yes. Because children should be aware that it takes money to live and understand why parents aren't able to spend. That they should also be made aware of the fact they need to help parents save or conserve money by not being wasteful.

WHAT DO YOU THINK AND WHY?

That's a toughie!! Do you have to take a particular side? Hmmm...go with "No, they should not know" and explain that a child's security affects their social and mental well being. They can learn importance of money when they're older and actually have a job. Hope that helps.

I think that they should be made aware so that they learn the way life works.

It also depends on the age.

If the situation is very severe and the child is young then I dont think that they should know the severity of the situation because it could stress them out and they could blame themselves.

i think children shouldn't be told until a certain age when they are mature enough to understand exactly what you said, they should be aware of money's worth and try to conserve money. i remember when i was around in the fourth grade, my parents told me about some of their financial problems and all i could think about was "i shouldn't have bought that pencil" or "i can't go to the movies with my friends anymore". that was all i could think about for weeks. if the child is too young, he/she won't understand fully what's happening. you shouldn't worry them, wait until they're about thirteen.

I don't think it necessarily has to be one or the other. Parents should teach their children to be responsible with money regardless of how much they make. I think that young children shouldn't know about their parents' specific financial situation, but that doesn't mean you buy them everything they want or allow them to waste money.

No I don't think they should know. Children don't understand financial problems. It's better to just tell them that they can't have what they want at this time. You would be putting to much of a burden on them to try and explain your finances. Let them be kids.

@ an appropreate age i believe so. my son is 10 and he knows about the bills and what needs to get paid and when. and knows the in & out going expensise. i think that this is good for him. he is great with money. he has his own savings and has chores to earn money so he budgets it to get what he wants. sadly i think he is better w/money then me he will have 20 buck in his pocket longer then i can. i think i did the right thing he is very cautious about what when and where his money goes.
