There are a couple of places on the strip that sell tickets same day at 1/2 price. I believe they open at noon each day and sell whatever is left.
One is at the mall just past Treasure Island and the other is in the middle of the strip and has a coke bottle as its distinctive feature.

Most hotels will also run specials for locals only, so be sure to mention you are a local when calling and making reservations.
Also all of the Cirque Du Soleil shows (Ka, Mystere, O, Zumanity, Love) have a Locals Apreciation Month where locals can see the shows for a discounted price.

Try those tickets for tonight booths on the Strip - I saw them to be cheaper than the venues for a lot of the shows, but not all of them.
