Changing an event in time would affect all kinds of lives and other events. Example, everybody put "Kill Hitler". What about that person whose grandmother was widowed by a husband that went off to war, and then remarried years later and had a big family. That person wouldn't exist because grandma didn't get remarried.
I guess if I knew it wouldn't mess up any other events, I would eliminate the discovery of gunpowder and nuclear reactions. Although, I'd be out of a job because I work in nuclear medicine, which relies on by-products of nuclear reactions, so once again I have made my point.

Industry and emissions. Any thing else changed would alter the world perhaps in worse ways than the actual events. although it would be nice to prevent 9/11. I don't see how that not happening would change the world in a negative way.

Go back and Kill Hitler, stop Elvis from taking all them damn drugs, get Bruce Lee into a CAT Scan, find out who exactly killed JFK, find out if Marilyn Monroe was really pregnant with a Kennedy baby. Man I could go on and on.

According to some scientists, it doesn't matter what you do when/if you go back in time. Some believe that at any crucial moment of decision, a parallel universe is created. So if you go back in time to kill Hitler, you'd only be killing him in that universe. Come back to this one, nothing will have changed.
