a beginner such as yourself will not have calouses built up yet, so I'd get comfortable strings. Strings are made with varying degrees of roughness, so go to the store and feel the different kinds and choose the smoothest.

Go practice and practice a lot, then back at the music store ask what options or effects the different strings are intended to give the player and choose based on what the expert at the store tells you.
