I ask this question becuase a friend of mine just bought 2 puppies. They are going to be 4 months old and they don't have their shots. She asked me to take care of them for a week while she goes camping. But I have a 7 month old daughter and I don't know if this is a safe thing to do. My apartment is small, so I'm not sure if separating them at all time is going to be easy. Let me know if there is anything medically dangerous about them being around my child.

My first concern is how your friend "purchased" 4 month old puppies without shots..... (they should have had them at 6 weeks, and definitely before they were sold)
For all practical purposes, most things the dogs get shots for are not contagious, rabies would be my first concern, but you can probably eliminate the chance of rabies by location and activity. Are they in the country, inside or outside dogs, come in contact with skunks, squirrels, raccoons, etc. The only other concerns that I would have are worms (puppies often have them) and any skin disorders (i.e. mange) Skin disorders are pretty obvious, and worms come in all shapes and sizes. Do they have any visible worms in stool? Do they drag their buts on the ground to itch? Are they OVERLY obsessed with licking their butts?
The chances are rare that your baby could get sick, but their is still a chance... Your best bet is to ask your friend to either get their shots (the local pound, petsmart and places like that can do it for about $50 each dog) or suggest that just this once they board the dogs (which they will probably have to have proof of shots to do anyway). One last thing, have these dogs ever been around a toddler/baby? Depending on the breed, size, temperament - dog sitting for them may not be an option. Some puppies don't mean to hurt the baby, but they have no concept of little ones until their older and more experienced. Good Luck!

you could start them on puppy mush at 3 weeks previous! very easy to make: 2 cups of stable high quality dry puppy food overwhelmed in a blender blended with puppy replacer milk till a runny oatmeal like mush. Pour into pie pan or yet another very shallow dish! i'd double this on your sized muddle. Get 2 shallow pan and feed this to the doggies 4 cases an afternoon! Water would nicely be presented at 4 a million/2 weeks previous. till then i'd shop them on the puppy replace milk. wish this enables.

Puppys and kids don not get the same ilnesses. SO IT SHOULD BE FINE .I would never get a pet I dident plan on taking care of. Your freind needs to be told that part of owning a pet is to properly vacinate them. The puppys will need a rabies shot which could be harmful to your child if the pups get rabies then bite the baby.

It would not be the shots I am worried about but if they had parasites which MANY puppies have. Have they been wormed and checked for parasites? If not, I would not take them. They wont have any luck boarding them anywhere without proof of vaccines either.

If they dont have the time to take 30 minutes out their day to get the puppies vaccinated, they should not have them at all.

Normaly, it isn't a good ideo to bring puppys and new borns toghetter. And if, like you say, they don't have one shots with 4 months, forget it!!!!. Even when the puppy shots are 1 or 2 weeks old. I wouldn't do it. The Imunsystem of the little one isn't like ours.

If I were you I wouldn't do it, for the sole fat that they haven't had there shots. She could get parvo, ring work and a few others. Just ask your friends to ask someone else or get the puppies shots. There's more to what she could get , but I don't want to gross you out, call a vet and they'll tell you more.

Good Luck

Shots shouldn't be a problem. But if they aren't vaccinated my next question would be have they been de-wormed. Puppies and babies don't get the same illnesses but the puppies can pass worms to your baby.

Having any animals around a baby can be harmful. There are many poisons such as samenilla(spelling) that can be easily transfered to a baby. You should always have shots for your animals just in case they are carrying a disease.

well i guess it's safe as long as the puppy is not agitated. but i wouldn't take the risk of a puppy biting my daughter. the rabbies of a puppy is more dangerous than that of a grown dog.
