Go to www.tribalectic.com and read personal experiences about labret piercings. There is a lot of information there.

Labret Piercings

It does hurt but only for a second. Its over quicker than you can say "oh **** a there's a needle in my face". Ive had mine for about a month now and Ive had no problems whatsoever. I clean it twice a day with salt water and the swelling went down within about three days.

This is however my second attempt as the first go was a cbr on my lip line.. the actual piercing was fine but that night i went to a gig and the ball got knocked off the ring (yeah i know, stupid) anyway i woke up after that nights sleep with a lip like i had done 10 rounds with mike tyson. After the swelling went down (two weeks) i noticed that the ring was fine on the outside but on the inside it was too close to the inside of my lip so i would never be able to wear a bar. I took that one out.. let it heal and got it re-done slightly lower than the original hole. you cant even see where the old one was

So i guess the point of the story is take your time and pay attention when he does the dot near your lip and DONT go to a gig on the night you have your labret pierced

No it doesn't hurt that bad. the clamp hurts worse than the needle. You have to be very careful to keep it clean while it heals though, you have a ton of bacteria in your mouth. also how high you put it is a big factor. I had mine about 1/2 a centimeter below my lip and the back of it pushed against my gums and really hurt. I moved it up to right against my bottom lip though and it solved that problem, but my dentist wants me to stop wearing it because it is damaging the enamle on my bottom teeth. The labret isn't a piercing you can wear for more than a few years without causing gum or tooth damage. The only time it interfears with eating is when I bite into a really big sandwich. sometimes my teeth hook under the back and I bite into my lipring with my food. That hurts! But anything else I eat is cool. the stud has a flat back so it lies flush on the inside of your lip

I got one when I was in college. The piercing itself didn't hurt, but the aftermath did. The back of the barbell, even though it's flat, rubs your gums raw and you have to deal with a lot of "crusties" around the piercing until it heals completely. After two months of dealing with it, I removed it. This will scar, just like all other piercings. I haven't worn any of mine since the late 90's and all of my holes from my facial and body piercings still show.

Monroe. Unless it's a hoop I think bottom lip rings should stay centered, it just seems off if it's to the right or left BENEATH your lip. Monroe piercings are better to me, but it's your face, so I can't make the decision for you. :) I just think that bottom lip rings should be hoops to the side, snake bites, or just a stud in the center (I don't know what they're all called, ha ha). Monroes look good. Monroe wins!

It doesn't hurt when you get the actual piercing but afterwards it will hurt like a sob for about 3 days

one of my friends just got one....she said that it did hurt....it only took about 2.5 weeks to heal and now she is able to take it out freely...sometimes though she keeps a stud in because the person who pierced it said it will take up to a year to a year and a half to heal properly.....food does not get stuck in it though it is too far away from her mouth....and i don't know whether or not it bled....
