There are liberals and conservatives with diverse opinions. The problems in our political system are primarily because we define each other as either liberals or conservatives, democrats or republicans. Even the third party candidates are really just renamed persons of the same two political parties. The question is how do we escape from this trap and find a genuine dialog with each other?

Well... Al Gore lead to the passing of the legislation that allowed for the Internet to exist. He didn't invent it, but without his help, it might have taken a lot longer of a time for it to form as it is today.
Liberals think that someone shouldn't be punished by where they are born or where they go to school or how sick their parents are. If Americans all have one vote, shouldn't we all have equal opportunity to be successful, meaning everybody gets a good education and doesn't have to worry about mandatory expenses. There are certain basic needs that the government must strive to meet and liberals push legislation that works to meet those needs better. Liberals love America, but don't love that fact we have, for instance, jobless veterans who cannot afford health care starving in America who have children that will face the same fate. On social issues, liberals, for the most part, believe that people should be able to do whatever they want as long as they don't harm anyone else.
Back to the question, Liberals have many different opinions that differ from those of Jesse Jackson to those of Joe Lieberman.

That's just silly...
Why do you think that all liberals think the same?
You said, "There are reasonable liberals on this site." There are reasonable conservatives on this site. When we talk to each other we learn that we're not so different. Only some greedy party members, looking for your vote or lobbyists money would make you think differently. They are the unreasonable people.

Because there are certain "liberal" things that are universally true:
1-People have a right to their own body.
2-Nationalism is dangerous and wasteful.
3-People who claim to believe in religion the most usually follow it the least.
4-Few conservatives today could withstand the conservatism of the past.
5- Our best leaders throughout history believed in a non-violent,
altruistic vision(read:liberal liberal liberal)
6--Sex is cool.Nerds are not cool.
Threw that last one in for a smile!

Do you mean like, blaming Clinton for 9/11 or still camping on Teddy Kenedy for an accident that happened 40 years ago, gee I guess I don't know why liberals don't come up with anything new.

Independents think on their own. Being an independent, I agree with some ideas of both liberals and conservatives and disagree with many others. But as for your question, I think it must depend on the issue. Both sides seem to stick together fairly well on many debates.

I could ask the same question except subsitute "conservatives" for "liberals."
Do the strikingly similar talking points of Bill O'Reilly, Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity (to name a very few) right a bell?

I think that their opinions are diverse. That is why the Democrats can never get their act together and unite.
I consider myself liberal, yet I believe in the death penalty and other more "conservative" things.

BECAUSE THE ANSWERS ARE SO SIMPLE its common sense, something that the neo-cons have none of. they blindly follow the party line no matter how badly it screws this country and its people... you sound like a smart guy so my guess is that somehow you profit from all the mess the neo-cons have gotten us into.
