that's a good question trixie, i don't get it either. i think maybe people are just envious of the fact that NASCAR is so popular. a lot of people are very narrow minded when it comes to sports, they think if there is no stick or ball involved, it can't be a sport. how small minded is that? i guess it's just that baseball and basketball fans are jelous of the fact that NASCAR is more popular than their favorite sports

I LOVE NASCAR!! People that dis it jut dont watch it or understand....it would sort of be like me watching golf or bowling...personaly I don't see the point! But NASCAR is at least excitng! Yes...it's the last 20 minutes of a race that is the best but everything up to that point is what makes the last 0 minutes great! For the person who said they could watch their cat chase their tail and it would be the same as understanding NASCAR...I would love to see your cat loose control during a bump draft while chasing his tail and crash at 200 MPH into a wall while other cats around him avoid hitting the wall or someone else.....when your cat does that, then you will understand NASCAR. Until then it's just a cat chasing his tail.

Because if they're young teenagers, they don't wanna watch anything their peers think is 'uncool' and get razzed for it...
Some people are ignorant to believe the 'redneck' stereotype that some people use when talking about, usually putting down, NASCAR and the fans...
They think NASCAR is 'what you see is what you get' 'cars going round in circles', without learning EVERYTHING that is a part of racing, they want 'immediate gratfication' and 'what you see is what you get' which is how most stick and ball sports are(or are presumed to be)
They don't think minorities are involved in NASCAR racing, which has changed somewhat(there are minorities that are drivers and also some race teams are owned or part-owned by minorities....I say, let 'em hate it. I'm a NASCAR fan, and if anyone disses me for it, tough. I wonder why they don't hate NHRA too, 'cars going in a straight line for like 5 seconds'..and I'm an NHRA fan too!

I think there are few options for this:
First, most people don't understand the sport. The mechanics that go into it or the maneuvering that it takes to win. (Mind you I myself don't understand watching men in cars making left hand turns for hours on end)
Second: The cultural connotation of it being a red-neck or southern sport. Some view the sport as being embraced by not well educated folks, who they then associate with particular societal/cultural traits that they don't like.
Personally, I have watched Sprint car racing for the mechanics and the fun, but really just don't find the auto racing sport (other than rally car races) to be appealing.
Hope that helps.

Because most people are cabable of understanding the concept of it. It can be interesting for people who care to follow it but it's more of a 'cult spot'. It does have the largest fan base of any other sport in the country though. More than footbal! It's just hard to watch a 4 hour race where the last 20 minutes is all that matters.

I have watched Na scar. My hometown bar would put nothing on TV but Nascar. Anyone who can be entertained by watching those races can be entertained watching a disco ball.
If you want real racing watch Grand Prix, the cars are faster, handle better and they actually race on track with curves and turns and straight aways!

You go Puppy2adopt!! Great answer! Too funny!
I agree with most of you, people dis because they don't understand. Sure they can get a bit slow at times if they stay green to long but.....it is SO much more than just driving in circles. How about the fantastic crashes, pit stops, the bumping, drafting, rubbing, to loose, to tight, blowing engines, blowing tires, rising tempers, middle fingers waving, American flags flying, Jets doing the fly over. Awesome sport. Did I mention the crashes?
I am going to Michigan International Speedway this weekend can't wait. Gonna get me some beads...LOL!!! One word "INFIELD"
Yes!

It's almost like racism. People stereotype those that like Nascar by assuming they are all rednecks, drink a lot of beer, and live out of trailers. We know that is not true as a whole.

After watching the same cars do left turns for the first hour, I figured there wasn't much else to see. I'm really not into watching people get hurt in multi-car high-speed collisions. If there is something else I missed, please let me know and I'll try to stay awake for more of the left turns.

People are critical of anything they don't understand, not just auto racing. They don't have a clue (like the Democrats) so they cry whine complain and don't know what they are doing.
