From your list it would be nova, but that is for a (relatively) short period of time.

Ok, all of you are thinking that the sun means our sun, she means and number of suns, there are a huge number of suns out there don't forget... a nova is the brightest for a few moments, extremely bright, since it is the explosion of a massive star. I don't know what a main sequence is though i suspect it's the prime lifespan of a star (aka the time when it's at its peak performance putting out as much energy as it ever will) a white dwarf if I recall correctly is rather dim a red giant I think is a little brighter than a white dwarf... but it's still pretty dim since it's about to go super nova because it's so big it's gravity can't really hold it that much longer, and it's energy output it almsot kapoot. and the sun... or a sun sized star is probably the equivalent of a main sequence

Nova is technically the brightest.. But the sun is closest... So does it matter about the distance..? Because the sun really isn't as bright as other stars it's just REALLY close.

A star that is in a nova or supernova stage is undergoing a massive explosion, so they are definitely brightest. Right now, the named star "Sirius" is the brighest.

it is the red giant...for more reference...go to physices book..last chapter..class 10th..cbse.
its the largest star coz the outer cover keeps going explosin while the inner cover keeps going implosion..so it results in a star, extremely big in size...called a red giant..
