My heart tells me that no one should be discriminated against on a job related to their appearance, and that everything should be based upon their ability and performance.
My conscience tells me to admit that I know I would be biased against someone with facial piercings (and facial tattoos as well). I just don't like, or approve of, the look or the message it sends to more conservative types (aka adults).
My intellect tells me that common sense would require some discrimination. As an employer, for instance, the pierced or tattooed individual may work out fine in a creative, or behind the scenes, or lower level position. Some jobs it would be tolerable.
But there is no way that I would hire that person for a highly responsible job or where they are out representing my business to customers or associates. First impressions count too much for that to happen.

facial piercings can be tasteful, but not professional. they give off a "rebel" vibe. if you want to work at a bar or nightclub or something like that then sure, pierce it up, but if you want to work at an office, or be a teacher, or many many other jobs then you better take them out and grow up. an employer has the right to enforce any type of "dress code", that includes visible piercings

Absolutely. Every employer has the right to set dress/grooming standards for their employees. If you want a job that pays more than minimum wage, I suggest you lay off the high profile tattoos and facial piercings.

I don't know about being discriminated, but I think they are deliberately making a statement. So they should be prepared to live with the reaction - in general, people not only get employed because of their exam results, but also based on sympathy.

I dont think that they should. Maybe they should be limited though... I have a nose ring and it doesnt look trashy and it's not big and gaudy, so my job doesnt mind it at all and its an office job!
But there should definately be some limitations, like 3 visible face piercings or something like that!

yep, face piercings are for people that don't want to achieve good body cleaning habits...and need to draw attention to themselves....check this out....have yourself a tailor made suit..may cost as much as six hundred to twenty six hundred...go out in public and look at the responses..your not the suit type? but look at the attention you'll get, not to mention the women...and the money...all employers are looking for a serious workers that will be a big plus to the company...good luck...

it depends on whether or not they still have jewellry in them. if they still have jewellry in them it conveys the message that you are a punk rebel who wont take orders and wont work well with others. if they are empty, then that just means the person felt she did something stupid in her past and that it doesnt reflect on who the person is now. plus "discrimination" is a word used for preventing people from getting their fair share based on something they had NO control over, such as being black or a woman.

In some places, that 'discrimination' is necessary, such as the food service industry, where it could fall off into the food and be unsanitary.
