Come on now! We white folks owe blackie 40 acres and a mule. Lets face the facts, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are racist pigs. However they hide that fact. By hiding it they can get air time on t.v and radio. If you have racist attitudes or remarks you won't receive and publicity. So they get in all the papers, on all the t.v shows, and all the radio stations brainwashing people into believing we owe blackie and that we should feel ashamed of ourselves.
The only thing we owe black people is an opportunity. By lowering standards for a certain race of people so they can get into school or get certain jobs over more qualified people is not only wrong but counter productive.
By the way, I'm a Native American. I have more reasons to cry about whitey than anyone, but I don't. I understand that most people will hire or accept you if you are qualified. Especially if you can make your employer money. Every employer is racist because the only color they favor is green
So put down the malt liqueur, stop selling drugs, put your backwards hat on the correct way, pull your pants up to your waistline and remove yourself from the welfare line and do something for a change.

Discrimination is against the law so everyone should have an equal and fair opportunity for a job. Therefore, affirmative action is not needed.

By instituting affirmation action the government is breaking its own law by discriminating against whites because some more qualified white person will not get the position because of a government quota.

As an african american female, I must say that I completely understand why White America thinks we no longer need affirmative action. However, the sad truth is this is not the case. We do still need affirmative action but not just to help blacks. Did you know that affirmative action also helps women? And did you know that by the numbers, african americans do better than most women in the workplace? Did you know that some companies like Bellsouth would prefer to hire Black men over a white woman for executive positions? Did you know that to get rid of affirmative action now wouldn't be as much of a problem for african-americans as it would be for WOMEN! THAT is why I am against getting rid of affirmative action.
Perhaps you should take a look at the laws pertaining to affrimative action and you will find that the laws were mostly put in place to help blacks but the laws help ANYONE of a minority group. There are more women in america than men and women are STILL considered to be a minority.
Also keep in mind that there are a great many industries that are not yet WILLINGLY ready to accept african americans or any minority (besides asians).
It's easy for whites to feel that we no longer need affirmative action but we do. Whites have no social predators, do not face any levels of oppression in any form big or small so do not face obstacles on a daily basis that other minorities do. But I'm sure there are a lot of white women out there who would agree that women also still have a long way to go before we are viewed as equals in many respects.
And yes, black people do practice a great deal of discrimination but I blame black leaders for that. Instead of consistently portraying our people as needy beggars and making stupid demands (the Confederate Flag? HONESTLY!) that do nothing to help the forward progress of Blacks, they need to be encouraging blacks to be more progressive, to get educated, to take a bigger part as americans in society. Maybe then we'd stop facing obstacles that nowadays seem to be placed in our way because of our own attitudes and chips on our shoulders instead of our skin color...

I was a victim of affirmative action (or as I like to call it, "Lets keep whitey down) at a prior job. I had been at the job for 12 years, went to college while employed, and had enrolled at a law school.

The department hired a female officer, and when she had 9 months on she was promoted. She had no where near the qualifications that I had. I spoke with the head boss, and was told that the position was only open to females as they were the only ones who could "do the job".

So for those of you who think that white males aren't discriminated against...kiss my a$$. Thankfully, I no longer work there...

P.S. No, I don't owe anybody anything for slavery...my family never owned any slaves, and even fought for the North. So, hah.

I think Affirmative Action was set up to help and was intended to do some good. Unfortunately, it has left some people out in the cold. It certainly has it's flaws just as many other government programs. I think it's hypocritical that if there were to be a proposition for a "white" version of Affirmative Action, that would be considered racist. Just like racially divided schools. If there were to be an "all white" college, it would be racist. But we are allowed to have all black colleges at the same time. Racism works both ways, but the government keeps it one way. We're allowed to say "Black Pride," or "Latino Pride," but if we say "White Pride," then we're KKK members. When the government starts programs that cater to minorities and divide us all into groups according to our heritage, that just fuels the hate and racism.

Looking at the other questions, it's obvious that you sir are a freaking racist. The question you ask on here are only to validate your pathetic existence. What's wrong, did a black man with his big,Mandingo penis (since your so big on stereotypes) steal your girlfriend. Or did A Jewish man take away your precious job. Or maybe a Hispanic got better grades than you in school. Whatever the case, you need to get over yourself. I know it's hard for you to be the only/favorite child for sooo long (whites), and then your parents(the U.S) goand get all of these siblings for you (hispanics, blacks, asian, west indian, etc. ). Now it seem as if they've forgotten about you an you don't get the attention or perks that you used to. No fret my pet, you didn't lose the spotlight, you gained brothers and sister, you can either play nice, or move the hell outta your parent's house.

Affirmative Action is the politically correct term. The more correct term is "quotas" or minimum percents or "social re-engineering" or whatever.

Quotas hurts the minorities and it hurts all of us. Teaches kids the wrong principles, and it's anti-American.

It's social re-engineering by elitists and it's an social experiment thats now cotified into law.

Folks will still be having this conversation in the year 2075, 100 years after the start of this boondoogle.

Not me. People just need to start discriminating against "Scandinavian-Americans" so I can get some of that sweet affirmative action preferential treatment too.

Unfortunately we live in a timeframe where oppressions of our ancestors are trying to be corrected. This means that we are having to pay the price for their mistakes.

I know that two wrongs don't make a right but it is the only way to correct past errs because human nature won't allow it to correct itself on its on.

I am. I mean this whole discrimination crap is crap. There are more black people who are racist than white people anymore. You always hear the black people saying that such and such a family member was a slave. Not everyone had slaves and not everyone should be treated like they did.
