-5x +5=53+7x
5=53+7x+5x
5=53+12x
5-53=12x
-48=12x
12x= -48
x= -4

-5x + 5 = 53 + 7x
subtract 5 from both sides, leaving -5x = 48 + 7x
subtract 7x from both sides, leaving -12x = 48
thus x = -4
