Because it unfortunately makes some people feel like they are looking superior. It really makes them look like an **** but they are so blinded they do not see it that way

Perhaps their parents, or other adult influence, didn't teach them manners. Or perhaps the question being asked is rude to begin with. Perhaps they are hot-tempered and it's just their personality. An honest questions, when intrusive in nature, can ellict a rude response. But, regardless the tactlessness of the question, one should always take the higher road and respond with politeness.

Good question - similar to "why do people who don't know the answer feel the need to say something - albeit repetitive nonsense?"

This is similar to (but *not* identical to) the reason many newgroups (on the USENET) invented FAQs. My only insight us that by answering in any fashion, inadequate people feel they have augmented their social stature (and hence probability of attracting a mate). I'll leave it to you to decide if this is, in fact, what is achieved.
