I agree with him. I'm a first generation American, my family came over here, learned the language and became citizens. Why are we now letting people come over and not have to learn how to speak English? If you're in America, and you want to live here with all of our privliges and opportunities, the least you can do it learn our language.

I am a very firm believer that you should speak English. Hell, I don't expect you to learn English overnight, but at least try to learn the English language.
Anyways, back to the sign. No person has been refused service at Geno's. It's just like me asking someone to repeat something for me because I didn't understand it, or speak a little slower because they are talking way too fast for me.
Also, have you been to Geno's at 1, 2, 3 o'clock in the morning? I have! That place is a madhouse, and you want to serve customers as fast as you can to please everyone as soon as you can. Want to be slow with service? Well, they'll be walking down the street to Pat's Steaks.
It just seems to me that we have forgotten our first amendment rights. We want to hammer the owner because he is requesting someone to speak English. The only people that have been refused service are people that refuse to buy there cheesesteaks there, but we sensationalize everything and make things worse than what they are. We try to censor everything, because someone's feelings get hurt, but we have the right to bear arms, and people are killing people because you can get a gun somewhere and shoot someone up for no reason. I'm sorry, there's bigger fish to fry in this country than worrying over an owner's English request.

I am a person who believes that if you live in America, you should speak English. If a tourist, then you need to let store proprietors know by a letter, note or translator that you do not live here. It is very hard to do business on a daily basis with people who do not speak or understand English. I would expect Americans to learn the language of another Country if they were to move there also. The manager should be tolerate of tourists.

Good for him! English is the official language of this country. It is alright to speak another language at home or with other people who speak your language, but if you come into a country, you need to speak their language. He is not saying that he will not serve people who don't speak English, but he doesn't have the time to try to figure out what people are saying. He has every right to ask that his customers order in the language that he understands. It's common sense.

I think he is right. When immigrants get their citizenship, they are supposed to know basic English. If they don't care to speak our language in our country then they need to go back to their own country. I think the liberals in Philly need to leave Geno's alone. He has a right to refuse service to anyone.

America is a free country. Geno's is a private business. They could only serve people who spoke ancient Latin if they wanted to. If it hurts their business, they'll learn their lesson and take down the sign. If they don't, whatever. I'm not going to complain either way.

LEARN ENGLISH IF YOU ARE GOING TO LIVE IN THE US! I shouldn't have to learn another language to live in my native country. If we make things too easy how will they ever learn the language? I don't expect to move to a country like China and think I'm going to make a life there only speaking English.

When companies advertise in another language(such as Chinese, Mexican, etc), all they are doing is promtotion of illeteracy.
Anyone who cannot speak english in America finds their options...limited. And then we ALL lose.
