I have had this problem for as long as I can remember so I just quit using lotion. I tried ALL of them and an hour later my skin would be dried out again.
I finally found something that works though, but you have to get used to it.
You get a lotion you like and some Baby Oil GEL. Mix them together in a container about half and half, or what ever you can stand. This will keep your skin moisturized for over 24 hours if you don't shower (I don't recommend not showering, lol, im just saying).
Anyways, it took me a few days to get used to the baby oil feel, but it doesn't feel baby oilish after an hour or so, so if you can get past it your skin will never be dry again!!!!
Seriously try it!!!

First of all, exfoliate twice a week. Use 1/4 cup olive oil with 1/4 salt (or sugar) add 3 drops lavender essential oil(optional but wonderful). Scoop and massage in a circular motion all over your arms and legs, paying closer attantion to your elbows, knees and heels, then shower. You may need nothing more, but if you do, any light natural moisturizer (like Burt's Bees) will do.

I use Curel on my really dry skin and it works really well without being too greasy. Also try a lotion with a high percentage of shea butter. L'Occitane has really good stuff, but it's a little expensive. Or try bath oil, like the kind you rub on your skin after the shower. I think Nutrogena has one that my mom uses on her eczema.

I use scrubby shower gloves to get rid of the dry skin then after my shower instead of drying off I spray myself down with baby oil I put in an enxpensive spray bottle. Let it soak in and then just barely dap dry as you get ready for work/school. It is working really well. I also love alveeno for dry skin.

If you live in a really dry, low-humidity area, such as Arizona, pure vitamin E oil. It works and does not leave your skin oily. Just moved from Phoenix and is what I used there.

Olay Body Wash is awesome. I am in my 50's and have the same problem. I look like an alligator otherwise. But be careful, you could slip in the bath or shower.

Aveno daily oatmeal lotion is sweet. Use it at least twice a day, and drink more water. Drink a ton of water.
