Can anybody help me on The Suffering: The Ties That Bind?

Question

there is this one part where you are running around in a prison (Eastern Bay Correctional Institution) and you meet up with the character Miles. everytime i play the level he dies, even though i know he can be saved. how do i save him from being killed?
ive got the xbox version if that makes a difference.

i dont like using cheats
