Are you having a specific problem in finding employment? Are you not being offered interviews, or are you getting interviews but not the job? There are a few things you can do to improve your chances of getting chosen for a position.

1. Don't wait for the company to call you once you have applied, call them within 24-48 hours to see if they have had an opportunity to review your application/resume...calling them first will show that you are serious, that you are willing to take the initiative and responsibility, and that you feel comfortable with your communications skills.

2. Always have a resume and cover letter ready..even if you don't think you'll need one. Submitting a resume with an application will help you stand out and give you an opportunity to include details about yourself that the application might not ask for.

3. Dress as if you are ready for an interview when submitting an application...and ask if a manager might be available to speak with you for a few moments. If one is...have a short list of questions for them..."I am interested in working for Company X, do you offer tuition assistance?" "Is there room for advancement?" "What would you suggest to a person just starting out with the company?" This serves two purposes...it allows you to introduce yourself so the manager will have a face to put to the application, and asking questions like the ones above will show you are truly interested in a career, not just a job until you find a better one.

4. Dress as if you are interviewing for a better job than you are getting...for the job you want...not the one you have.

5. Speak clearly when on the phone and meeting in person...also, take notes during an interview and ask questions of your own...

6. Finally, never ever reschedule an interview, or be late for the interview or for work!

Good Luck....and feel free to email me if you need help with anything.
