Which place is better? Claires at the mall, Piercing Pagoda at the mall? or some tattoo/piercing place? im not sure. I want to pick the cleanest most perfessional place so my mom will let me get it done. Thanks in advance.

Honestly, forgo both the chain places and go to a reputable piercing studio. Claire’s and those other places use a piercing gun which 1.) Can’t be sterilized, 2.) There is no training involved and 3.) They use jewelry that is not appropriate for healing piercings.

There are things to look for in a piercing studio as well. 1.) Their experience. Ask your piercer how long they have been piercing and how many repierces they have had in that time. 2.) The studios reputation. 3.) their cleanliness standards. Are the floors and mirrors clean? Is it well lit? Do you see aftercare products displayed? Ask them how they sterilize their needles. Do they use gloves? Is their eating or food in the studio? If the floors and displays are dirty, I highly doubt that the studio takes the time to properly cleanse their equipment. 4.) Check with the APP to find a reputable piercer in your area. The APP is the Association of Professional Piercers. In order for a studio to be considered a member of the APP, they have to have a certain number years experience, complete a test on proper piercing and cleanliness standards. They are also required to sign a health and safety agreement. If they violate it, their membership is revoked. Every person in the studio must be certified by the APP for the studio to be considered a member of the APP. Make sure you ask to see their certification. You can also check and report imposters to the link to the APP website below.

It also has information on proper aftercare, your rights as a piercee and lots of other good information. Show your mom that you have done your homework and maybe she will be more apt to allow it.

Good luck and happy healing.

Go to a professional tattoo and piercing parlor. Going to a place like Claire's is a very bad idea because they use guns. It's safer to go to the piercing store.

Piercings with guns = bad.
Properly done piercings are done with a hallow needle that takes out a tiny bit of flesh and leaves room for the jewelry. This allows room for swelling and properly placement and for the piercing to heal. Gun piercings do not do this. They merely shove a substandard piece of jewelry through your ear and don't allow any room for swelling, etc. This will cause major problems in the healing process.
The piercings are often done too tight and improperly.
On top of that, the guns, although usually wiped down (or at least ideally wiped down) cannot be "completely" cleaned of all the microscopic bodily fluids that's spattered when the piercings are done. So, they're for all intents and purposes not sterile at all.

In short, piercings with guns are generally unsafe and subpar.

I have a certain addiction to getting my ears pierced. Every time I go to the mall, i end up at the Piercing Pagoda. Every time i end up at a tattoo parlor, I end up over with the piercer.

If you are still piercing the fleshy part of your lobe, the Pagoda is a fine place to go. If you are up into the cartilidge then you should have it done by a piercer. If you are going to get a Conch, Industrial etc. then you MUST see a piercer.

Your Doctor! i got mine pierced there. these mall people are not very good in doing that you need to go to a place that only does ear piercing and tattoos because they know what their doing. the mall just hires any one who can be trained to do it. i had a friend who needed to be pierced twice because the lady didn't get the earring in correctly. ouch! so go to a professional place and if you want to know how clean and good they are check the Better Business Bureau at www.bbb.org and just go look at some one having the procedure done

I got an infection at Piercing Pagoda. Could have been my fault, but I don't really think so.
I got my 2nd row pierced at Claires and they're fine, they usually do a good job.

My best friend got hers done at a jewelry kiosk in the mall where ear piercing was the only thing they did. Perhaps you could ask around; do any of your friends have their ears pierced? Ask them where they got it done and what they thought of the place.

If you just want your earlobe to be pierced, you can do it your self.
You have to disinfect the area, with some alcohol and cotton, if you give a massage with it for about 15 minutes, you can use the same earing to make it. You just have to be sure to get a new earing, and to disinfect it before, as well.
Why don't you talk to a friend who have done it, or maybe some nurse friend of your mom, it is really easy. I've done it my self twice. I use 3 earings.
