Clean off your computer (dump everything) and reload all of your applications back onto your computer. Your computer has managed to collect a lot of "junk" that is slowing your computer down, and the only way to get it off is to dump everything and reload.

Most likely the service provider has too many users for the number of lines they use. The wireless is seldom the problem. It is the provider. All home services are shared lines and when too many are sharing it it gets very slow. Cleaning your computer has nothing to do with the speed of the Internet service. If you are using a modem as a dial up then try to get DSL or one of the other fast services. If you already have one that is supposed to be fast then look for another that does a better job. Also complain to your provider because you are paying for service and that is what you want.

Here are following things you have to do.
1. Have 802.11g or higher for wireless.
2. Have more rams/higher cpu, sometimes having slow computer it self slows down internet within the computer for receiving end.
3. Check Signal, maybe wireles signal is too weak there.
4. Have faster internet speed service.
5. Make sure wireless is network to limited computers. If you have some other computers sharing internet or if you have openings in wireless, other computers maybe getting internet and draining your internet speed.
6. Make sure and checked to see if you have any possible spyware, spam, or etc. is/are running in your pc. They can be also factor.

Your wireless connection is either running at 11 mps or 54 mps. This means that the connection between your wireless computer and the router is pretty fast, but the connection between your router and the ISP might still be 1 or 2 mps. Therefore, you would be capped at this rate.

There are several ways to speed up your Internet connection. Some methods are harder than others. There are two (2) excellent articles on how to speed up your connection:
1. Boost your Internet Bandwidth -by fluxiontech.com (http://www.fluxiontech.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=50&Itemid=36)
2. Hacking Windows XP: Speed up your Network and Internet Connection. --by ExtremeTech.com http://www.fluxiontech.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=50&Itemid=36
Both tutorial walk you through the steps to optimize your connection. Be sure to create a restore point before making and changes.
In addition to these tutorials, there are two freeware applications that can help you improve your connection speed:
1. CableNut (it's mentioned in the ExtremeTech article) it's a bit technical but it's very reliable. You can download it at: http://www.cablenut.com/
2. TCP Optimzer - very easy to use. In the main menu, just select your connection type and then press [Apply]. You can download it at: http://www.speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe
To see if your changes increased your connection speed, go to Speakeasy site to measure your connection speed. Take the test before any changes and take it again after the changes. Go to:

Get a faster ISP. Internet Service Provider. Cable or DSL leave dial-up behind way too slow.

Are you talking about Direcway/Hughsnet Satillite? There not way to speed it up because they lied about how great their service is. I know because I'm on it and it sucks. Don't waste your time calling them because they can't and won't help you. Best thing is to get DSL or a Cable. If not available try wildblue.
