I really like "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley as far as classics go... The book just challenges your idea of humanity and the role it will have in the years to come from the first page to the last.

As far as newer books go, I would have to say "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold (Cebold?)... The book tears you apart in the first chapter, and then slowly puts you back together as you follow Susy and her family through a heart breaking story... It was the best book I'd read in a very long time.

Right now I'm reading "The Devil Wears Prada"... It's pretty good too... :)

The Grapes of Wrath (Steinbeck)
The Fool's Progress (Edward Abbey)
On the Road (J. Kerouac)
The Known World (Edward Jones)
The Giver (Lois Lowry)
Brazil (John Updike)

I realize there are six here. The first is the favorite. These books are very visual books that are well-written/classics. They are very beautiful to read. The Giver is a bit weird. The others are life stories.

I've got lots.Hard to pick out just one.

Dresden file book series by Jim Butcher. There are 8 books in the series beginning with stormfront. It narrates the story of Harry Dresden, chicago's only professional wizard. He stands between the general population who is ignorant about the supernatural world and the monsters-vampires,werewolves,fey.He is aided by Bob,a talking skull.Karrin Murphy-a police officer and Thomas-a white court vampire.

Count of Montecristo by Alexander Dumas. Its about a young French sailor who was unjustly imprisoned for 14 years before he escapes and ultimately takes revenge on his enemies. The author did a great job describing the emotions of the prisoner.Disbelief, denial, self pity, madness, apathy and finally hope.

The door to december by Dean Koontz.A psychiatrist's daughter was kidnapped by her ex-husband years ago. When the daughter is finally found, the real fight begins. One by one the people who held her captive become mysteriously tortured and killed. Everyone is afraid the young girl will be next.

The mystery unravels as to what happened to the young girl while she was kidnapped. The young girl, Melanie, is unable to speak, but her mother soon learns that the young girl went through extreme torture as her father used her for a rat in his experiments.

Dragon Jousters series by Mercedes Lackey. The first book 'Joust', is about Vetch a young serf who is rescued by a Dragon Jouster from his cruel master. He becomes a Dragon boy(one who takes care of dragons).Later he secretly hatches his own dragon. The later two books are about how he escapes to his native Alta and how the war between Alta and Tia ends. The setting reminds you of Ancient Egypt.

Dance with the devil by Sherrilyn Kenyon. The following review is taken from Amazon

Zarek was mad, bad and more than a little insane, and now everyone wants him dead. But hey, that was nothing new to this loner. Born the bastard son of a Roman nobleman and a Greek slave, Zarek had known a lifetime of abuse, torture and humiliation.

It takes a very special woman to see past that hostility and find the lost, unloved boy inside. Happily, Astrid is such a woman (or demigoddess, actually). Her empathy, patience and unconditional love make the perfect foil for Zarek's personal demons. They truly are a match made in heaven -- or should I say Mt. Olympus?

Also seize the night,Nightplay by Sherrilyn Kenyon

My favorite book is "To Kill A Mockingbird". I felt it was a great story with memorable characters. Also, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever", is a favorite of mine. I loved both stories.
