Many woman work up until they give birth because due dates are just a guesstimate. I would hate to be on maternity leave and lose the time if I ended up being 2 weeks late LOL

This totally depends on how well you're feeling. I took maternity leave 2 weeks before my due date, but i wasn't having back pain or swollen ankles....or any of that other stuff. It also depends on how much leave you get. If u only get 6 weeks, i would definately hold off as long as you can because you're gonna want as much time as possible with your baby afterward.

I took mine at 38 weeks, but I had no intention of returning to my job after my leave was up. I've known women who have worked right up to their delivery day. As long as you are having a healthy pregnancy there is no reason you can't. The later you take your leave the more time you will have off after the baby is born. I would want to spend as much time at home with my baby as possible, especially if you plan on breastfeeding and pumping when you return to work. You will need that time to establish your milk supply and begin storing some reserves.

It really depends on your worth ethic and your doctor. That would be your best bet to talk to your doctor. He/she may tell you that you need to be bedridden the last 3 weeks of the pregnancy, or that you can work if your perfectly healthy until the week before the due date. If your a first time mother, i would recommend giving your self atleast 2-3 weeks. First babies tend to be early, and you want to make sure your prepared for the delivery and as relaxed as possible!!

I didn't take a maternity leave, but I would think the normal is 1-2 weeks prior to your EDD. If you are having complications and are already 35 weeks, I would go ahead and consider weening your work hours down.

I am a school teacher and had I had my daughter when she was due, I would have had vacation the week before her due date. As it turned out, I worked on a Friday and had her the following Monday morning, so I worked right up until she was born. Stay at work as long as you can, you will go bonkers at home towards the end!

I think you are doing a great job already. 35 weeks and still going, I would say you are quit tired. :).. Most women usually take them at around 38 weeks. Usually, the baby is pretty ready, and soon for their arrival. That way, you have time to get in that last bit of overdue rest, prepare, and get everything ready for the big day.
Hope everything goes well, and get some rest now, I haven't had any in 10 months... ! LOL

It all depends on your activity level and what the Dr. says. I worked up until a week before my due date and only left because I teach special ed. and all the kids in my class were in wheelchairs. I was getting tired from all the lifting and my Dr. wanted me rested up for the birth. Then my daughter was 2 weeks late, so I got a little vacation in there!!!
