I've noticed that many people stay on welfare rather than taking advantage of the opprotunities available with continuing education. Why wouldnt someone go back to school while they're on welfare? It's not like they can't because they have a job to go to

People I've met that stay on welfare end up in a better financial situation then working full-time for minimum wage. Plus if you have children who need daycare, you end up working to pay the babysitter. It's a shame b/c continuing their education would get them a better job but either they don't think of it that way or they're lazy and don't want to try. This country definitely needs welfare reform AND disability reform. I've seen too many people take advantage of the system!

Why so much negative attitude toward poor people on welfare.
Paying a babysitter costs more than you can earn at minimum wage. If you have two kids forgetaboutit.
Leaving your kids in the hands of a stranger all day every day isn't good for your kids or your relationship with them.
The real problem is the deadbeat dads that disappear when their girlfriend gets pregnant.
Some people are disabled and couldn't survive without welfare. There are some lazy ones I suppose but at a much lower percentage than you people who think they're all lazy

Because governments cause human misery. It is a way for the person to say "I'm getting every penny I can from these bastards". The English pope Hadrian IV ordered the invasion of Ireland. The French Pope Urban II ordered the Crusades. Adolph Hitler ordered the invasion of the Czechoslovakia, Poland, Austria, France, Denmark, Norway, and the U.S.S.R. Andrew Jackson invaded Florida. Polk invaded Mexico. The Bush family invaded Iraq. The white man's empires of Spain, France, and Britain invaded North America and Africa.

Welfare is just another one of those programs for free money. People who are lazy and don't want to work, take advantage and those are the ones that stay on welfare for years and because our so called wonderful government allows them to! I bet if they were to make the welfare program a loan program not many of them would be so eager to be couch potatoes.

What?

If heads don't have money to eat and live, how should they pay for classes? Don't give me any scholarship bull$h!t either, cuz applying sometimes costs money, books and supplies costs money, transportation to and from, differences between scholarships/grants and tuition-- are you serious?

Not to mention that within the next decade (even now, arguably) a bachelor's degree will be about worth what a HS diploma is worth now.

That's no excuse to milk welfare, but welfare is meant to help out while heads get (back) to work-- their own education is on them, not the State.

These people are given a free ride for everything and welfare has made they virtually worthless. The people welfare was oruginaly designed to help (which was the elderly) can not even get help. Welfare just pays people to sit at home and drink and have kids.

When you are stuck on welfare, or in my case Social Security Disability, you face many barriers that the average individual does not face. Part of the problem is people thinking that they are just lazy and worthless to society. If you are truly concerned, why don't you give one of them a helping hand? Not only will they be rewarded, but you will be richly rewarded as well.

Welfare is easy and totally worth it. You have more on welfare than you could get at regular job. Free food, utilites paid, free health ins and dental for your kids, plus money left over. You can tdo under the table jobs for extra cash. Who wouldn't want the best life possible for their kids? And if you can stay at home doing it, all the better.
