Yes, it's still very true! I've also heard somewhere that people deserve the kind of president they elect (not that Bush was actually democratically elected, or anything). If people are willing to sit idly by and let their country turn into a dictatorship, they deserve whatever they get!

Ben Franklin was a wise man. Now a days many people prefer to have "others" think and decide for them. You hear the average citizen saying that the US is in Iraq "to protect our freedom" but what the heck does that mean? When did Iraq ever withhold our freedom? And how is it that this and other clichés are being used as an excuse to occupy another country while the US government has been spying on its citizens and going against the very fundamentals of freedom? The issue here is that the security threats are mostly propaganda to get people to agree to anything that brings revenue and gain to the government even if it goes against true freedom and democracy. Snatching people up and sending them to secret prisons where they'll likely get tortured is OK but Iraq was "withholding our freedom" according to some... where is people's common sense?

Benjamin Franklin said many great things, research it. Pretty good for self educated man.
Many of the thoughts and ideas our founding fathers set forth still hold true. I purposely fly a 13 star Besty Ross flag in my yard at home in remembrance of what this great country was founded on and how ,as a country, we have gotten away from it.
" Any society that sacrifices a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both"
and
" 3 people can keep a secret if 2 of them are dead"
and
" Time is money"

Founding Fathers had foresight we can't imagine.
You know damn well if Ben Franklin were alive right now he would be imprisoned on some superfluous charge as he would be examined closely by the FBI for being some kind of dissenter among the people

That's not what it means. It means that men should not give up their freedom willfully (ie let someone take it) by opting for the security of home (as opposed to going to war). The word "security" wasn't used in a national military context.
Jeez.

Many of the words of the Founders still hold true. Too bad Bush and Co. have no clue about them or the constitution.

Well, what about the words spoken by one of Shakespeare's characters? Hecate the witch from MacBeth was quoted as saying, "Security is mortals' chiefest enemy." How profound is that in this technological age we live in?

Without Security this country would never survive. You need security to protect your liberties. Thank "God" every time you see a person in a military uniform for serving this country to protect those liberties you so well have today. Then think about it. "What have "YOU" done for this country to deserve those liberties in the first place.
