My two year old hurt his foot while playing, and he's been limping for a week already. The x-rays didn't show any broken bones, what can it be?

Sure it's possible.

It is possible. X-rays will show bony damage but may not show a soft tissue injury. If the limping persists, then I would request an MRI of the ankle to rule out any soft tissue injuries. In the meantime, try to get your toddler to rest the leg with it above heart level while applying ice for at least 20 minutes. I know, easier said than done but worth it's weight in gold.

Good luck!

Its absolutely possible, toddlers have the same ligaments and tendons as adults. Did your Dr. talk to you about it when the X-ray was negative for a fracture?

You would treat it the same way you would an adult sprain - rest, ice, compression and elevation. They also have air casts that your Dr. can prescribe that are very effective for sprains.

POOR BABY! When he is napping and asleep at night, elevate it on a pillow and put a cold pak around his little ankle and foot. Keep him off of it as much as possible - he could have a torn ligament and you must try to stroll him and ice the foot.
