Why? It's a fact that In Canada more people are killed and injured on the streets from motor vehicle collisions than are killed or injured through all other criminal acts. I would bet that the situation is the same in the U.S. and in Europe as well. Forget what you see on TV., one of the most dangerous things a peace officer can do is make a traffic stop on a busy road. In Canada more police officers have been killed in the line of duty from motor vehicle collisons than from being shot or stabbed.
Driving in an unsafe manner can and more often than not does lead to serious injury or death. The government spends billions of dollars on health-care due to unsafe driving. And the private sector and the "common man" also pays for unsafe driving; there are high insurance costs for everyone whether they are safe drivers or not and the added risks to being on the roads. Why would the government want to condone street racing when such reckless activity is the leading cause of death and suffering in addition to monetary loss?

Well... street racing is dangerous to yourself and others... I don't think the government has the right to protect you from yourself, but as soon as you start doing something that can harm others, then the government should step in and do something.

Think about it... you can't have people racing in traffic (or even blocking off roads themselves to race)... it just causes too many problems... there are plenty of legal ways to race out there if you have the need to try to prove who's genitals are larger... Besides... all those burnouts and things are damaging to the pavement, which the government is responsible for repairing
