I believe the words are "If they say" or maybe "And if they say"

it is the pick up to "Why, why -- tell them that is Human Nature"

The words there are spoken very fast so it is hard to tell what they are. Sing365.com lists the lyrics at that point as:

1:42 comes just at the second, "if they say" since it is the second time for the words, it might be natural to add the 'and'
