A large sum of cash? I'd definitely put it into the bank and begin getting interest on it. Then I'd research where it came from. I wouldn't put too much effort into it, or draw too much attention to the fact I was researching.
If it was a check, I would research the source of the check and make sure it didn't have strings attached to it. I'm sure you've seen the small checks some companies mail out, that when cashed consider that to be signing a contract for their service or product. I'd be very leery about depositing or cashing a check until I've researched it thoroughly.

OMG if i got like a lot of money i would first donate some to the WASU (its a building for kids to hang out at after school and in the summer) Then I would go to France and have a super long shopping spree! And if I had any money left i would buy a house in North Carolina!

I wouldn't spend it because I don't know if there's been a mistake or something. So I would just keep it in case someone shows up demanding it back. Though it would be tempting to take the money and go away, I am a very honest person and so I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I took something that doesn't belong to me. Plus, the person who sent it may be crazy and would have come up with some kind of crazy scheme that stated that if I took the money, he/she could come kill me! So no, better play it safe...what's mine is mine, and what's not mine is not! If I didn't earn it, and if my family didn't give it to me...I wouldn't take the money!!!

If it is cash I would most definitely keep it, but before I spent any of it, I would pay my tithes to the church.
If it is a check, be cautious with it. My hubby received a check for $3000. It was a legal check. But it was a scam. The bank account had been closed. So we scammed the scam artist.
This is how the scam artist is working:
1. Sends you a legal tender check.
2. Wants you to deposit check into your account.
(once you deposit it, your account number is on the back of it)
3. Use your account number to withdraw money from your account.
4. He ripped you off and now you are indebt to the bank for thousands of dollars.
So we scammed him by checking out the check without even trying to cash it. When hubby got home, the person who sent the check contacted us. Strange but it happens every single day to people. I know there are a lot more checks floating around out there. It is from BONANZA 2000 (australian lottery) Please beware of this company.
I reported them to the Federal Trade Commission.

Have you ever heard of Secret Angels?? Is when one person wants to do something nice for another person, and maybe they think you're in need and that's why they sent you the money. In return, you might do something nice like that for someone who you think needs a little kindness and never let them know it was you. You then, have the satisfaction of doing something out of your heart without glorifying yourself. If I were you, I would hold on to the money for a few weeks and if no one claims it, then its yours. Remember to do something nice for someone else as well.

Well it definately depends on how much this "large sum of money" is. But I would put it toward home improvements or if it was enough to buy a new home, well thats what I would do then.

I'd be very suspicious!! I'd call the authorities, FBI, explain the situation -- just to cover my butt! Who knows, it could be stolen monies. If I spend any of it, will the authorities be knocking at my door to question where I got this marked / counterfeit money from??? I'd worry! Will the individual, people, who sent the money to me come for it at some point in time?
Yep, I'd have to call the authorities. If nobody claims it in 30 days, it is yours anyway.

Only keep what you need and give the rest to a good cause. This could be a moral test from someone above to see if you are worthy of his graces. Never temp fate I assure fate always has a sense of irony.

I will put it in a savings account for about a year without using a cent!!! Then... If noone claims the money or asks for "special favors" for giving me the money I will consider the money "safe to use"........
I will pay off all my bills, put 30% away, get a new wardrobe for mom, bro and myself and then go away to the Bahamas!
