no, poetry does not need to rhyme, there are many different forms of poetry..........good poetry is more of a personal definition .. what one person may enjoy as a good poem another may not ... but basically I would say a good poem, comes from your heart and soul ... other people can read it and understand and relate to it..or you can simply write it for your own enjoyment... to express your thoughts and feelings..

Poetry does not need meter or rhyme to be a poem! Your feelings on paper is as good a definition as any. Erica Jong wrote once that a book is like a marriage, a short story is like an affair, and a poem is like a one night stand...and I agree.

personally, poetry has no definition. there are some who define poetry based on numbers, form, or rhyme. But poetry is beyond a true definition. Poetry is more emotion, thought, things that have no definition themselves.
But that is just me...

Poetry: The deep inner feelings of your heart/head expressed in words. No - doesn't need to rhyme - just to have to come from within.

Poetry is what the artist thinks is poetry. Same goes for paintings. If you feel its art then its art. In school you learn "rules" on how to write poetry yet all poems are different. I've seen a one sentence poem!

no. it just has to come from your soul. it doesnt have to rhyme or anything like that, but it only needs to sound good for your point of view. like the poem i wrote a couple weeks ago:
you are the one
that makes me feel free
like the call of a nightbird
that sings by the sea
it cries to the one that it truly needs
to be with forever
or thats what it seems
you are the one
that makes me feel fine
like the shape of a rose
its beauty divine
sitting and wishing that you would be mine
for the rest of my life holds our unbreakable bind
you are the one
that makes my heart cold
with all of your lies and pleads and scolds
its hard to admit that it gets old
but i wish i could find somebody to love
that caan do something else than to use me and go
*see. it doesnt have to make sense to anybody else but if it makes sense to you thats all that maters

Poetry is anything that comes from the heart. Let it flow from the soul to the tip of your pen.
