Ok.. I have Cingular.. tired of paying so much.. I want to get a prepaid phone. how do I switch from contract --> prepaid.. I've been told I can keep the phone but what about the SIM card? Do I need a different one?
Should I just cancel Cingular and switch companies all together - and if I do that do I keep the phones and can I use them for another company prepaid?

I have 2 phones.. my husbands and mine.. We currently pay $180 a month once text messaging, insurance, fees, taxes etc are charged. We have like 3000 rolled over minutes that we don't need .. So a contract seems too pricey
I noticed that Cingular prepaid charges $1 a day for accessing your phone (gay) so for us that is $60 a month just for access! However they have mobile-to-mobile unlimited.. T-Mobile I have heard does not charge this $1 a day access fee but does not have free mobile-to-mobile.. PLus I have no idea if they have good reception / service or not..

We don't use our phones that much.. maybe 100 minutes a month TOPS .. most of that is mobile-to-mobile.. but Cingular doesn't have any family plans cheaper than $70 a month .. we do not need all those minutes.. what about if I want to switch from family plan to individual? Would this be better than family plan or worse?

When switching companies you'd have to get a new phone, but now a days you get to keep the number no matter where you go. Pre pay can get expensive if you use your phone a lot. Talk to someone at Cingular, see if there's a better plan for you. Shop around and see what other companies offer.

First you must wait until your current contract is up or you will be fined . Then shop around.. the cell phone industry can be overwhelming at the least. If you truly use your phone occasionally then I would opt to go with the prepaid, but you must be careful not to let them lapse or you will have to pay a reconnection fee. Go into a good reputable phone store and pick their brains you will find someone in the know to give you good advice. Good luck to you.

If your contract is not over yet you will end up paying a lot of money to cancel early ($250 for mine), so that's probably not the best option. But if you are already out of your contract, usually 2 years from when you set up the plan, you are going to be better off switching to a company that is primarily pay as you go.
If you are only a light Cell Phone user, pay-as-you-go will end up saving you money.

OK i have a sprint phone and i love it. it doesn't have any roll over mins but it does have mobile to moblie. i pay $15 for unlimited text, $6 for insurance and i have 1000 anytime mins plus after 7 free and that includes your free weekends. plus i think that they are still having a deal going on that when you add a line you get a new free phone. I've never had any problems with my phone and i get a great signal. you should look into it.

you don't need to change anything. just call cingular. they even have the prepaid card plan where you can still get your free mobile to mobile. i had to do that when i shut down my debit card. you can always switch back too.

Contract is better. If there is a problem with the phone or connection, the company should take care it. Plus, depending on what company-they offer free phones.
Check with different companies for the best rates and what they include.

I would never recommend pay as you go tracfone or anything like it, you actually end up paying a lot more than you normally would with a monthly plan. unless you use your phone for emergencies only and maybe slightly more then get the pay as you go anything more than that will probably be higher than what you are paying now

I don't suggest going to prepay. It will end up being more expensive.
