women cannot be equal to men and nor can men be equal to women.
and we learn this even from basic biology.
so its a big duhhhhh.
i'm a muslim, and would definetly say women can do things that men cant and there are certain things that men can do that women cant.
but in islam both men and women have rights.

Sabrina, you're right.
BIOLOGICALLY, a woman and a man are different. They can never be equal biologically speaking.
However, it seems you've been one of those who're brainwashed to think that men have roles and women have theirs and no one can intercept one another's roles.
This is a great burden to both sexes and I tell you many men can be as great mothers as you are (or are going to be) and many women can be as good wage-earners, breadwinners and strongholds for the family as any man can be.

To dictate a role to every man and women when God has made us all with different abilities (that's why you see many women are better at men's so-called "jobs" than women, and men who are better at women's "jobs" than men. It's very individualistic.).

God didn't create us from a factory. We're not mass-made. I don't think women = care for babies + housework and men = outdoor work + leader of family.
It's not right.
You're also judging everyone else who do NOT have the typically abilities as you perceive men and women to have. That's isn't very nice, as it is up to God to judge us, not you, nor your elders, teachers' or any human perception.

You talk about rights. Yes, Islam gives men and women rights. But who gets the better bargain, of course, I needn't say more, Muslim men are a degree higher than Muslim women, thus they're not equal in social and legal aspects of Islam, only spiritually.
Women are half of men. That's why you get half the inheritance, for example. Now you might say that, "This is because men are "supposed" to be the breadwinners."

Ah, "supposed" to. Does that create any leeway for a woman to make her way out as an independent woman if she wants to, or does that cripple her freewill if she just doesn't happen to be a good woman in the traditional sense.
What if she sucks at cooking, housework, child-care? What if she's barren? Doesn't this already condemn a woman to what society perceives as her role?

When God says that women are better at something, it doesn't mean that that's all they can ever do and are made to do for their entire lives.
God gave us the right to choose. God gave us individuals different gifts, different abilities.
A man might be a better cook than a woman somewhere out there, a woman might be a better business woman than a man somewhere out there.

Our roles should not be fixed, and we should have the freedom, whether or not you believe in something alternate, legally, socially and without condemnation, to do what we please, if it suits us, our situation and our circumstances.

Now tell me, besides the obvious biological differences (men have sperm, women have eggs, biological stuff.), what can a man do that a woman can't, and a woman do that a man can't.
Please don't give me something which men and women have already achieved in either fields. Give me an answer in the absolute sense.

You are true that men and women have different biology. I wouldn't ask most men to watch a child nor would I ask a woman to help me move a large tree (I would ask a bunch of them!)
As for Islam, it is true that women and men both have rights but it does seem to me that the men get the better end of the deal. I'm not going to debate theology with you though, dear lady. Biology I agree with you in that there are differences in men and womens physiology. As for never being truly equal legally and spiritually I cannot agree. You and I should have the same legal and spiritual worth as any man.

I don't think that we are trying to be equal like men, I think we are trying to gain social rights. We may not be equal to men in certain ways, and men use that against us, to make them seem like the stronger sex. We may not be able to do certain things men can do, (which are very few) but that does not mean we should be disrespected because of it. We are equal in the since that we need each other to survive. I think we are just asking for respect, not equality.

This is tricky. Men built this world...this society. We built the skyscrapers, the bulldozers, the airplanes. We cleared the forrests, moved the mountains, harnessed electricity, built dams, invented computers and Internet. We flew into space. We built your house, the school you attend, and hospitals and museums you visit. Men like to use brute force, meet physical challenges, like loud noises and things that explode. Women use all of these things, work in them, and function in them equally well alongside men. Men are now dressmakers, secretaries, homemakers nurses. So now we are all equal...but not really. It depends on the circumstances. We all function in whatever environment we must, and survive where we have to...we adapt. But remember that men also conduct all wars, kill more people, and are responsible for almost all violent and sexual crimes. So I'm not sure this equality thing is all it's pumped up to be. We all do what we have to do when we are called on to do it. We adapt.

i agree with you and i'm a young woman, women can't do things men can do such as be a firefighter, the women have a special test let requires you them to do less physical things, my dad was a firefighter in new york and there were several times when women firefighters would almost get them killed because they weren't strong enough for the job, it IS basic biology, you can hand me all of that feminist crap all day and i'd still want a 200 pound man carry me out of a burning building rather then a 115 pound woman

A woman can do anything that a man can do. We can work, we can make money, we can own companies, we can participate in marathons, vote, ect. Woman and Men are equal, just that some people either in the work place or in other places just do not recongnize a woman being equal to a man. So, I have to say I disagree with you 100%.

The equality women want has nothing to do with biology, and it's not another way of saying "the same as."

The equality we seek has to do with equal pay and respect and opportunities.

I KNOW that I can't produce semen or grow a beard, and I'm ok with that. (Actually, I should be able to do the latter in a few years, when menopause hits....)

I don't care if you or anyone else considers me equal to a man I just want the same pay for the same type of job or work.
