for many people that do not live in the Caribbean, the first thing that they think about whenever Haiti is mentioned is "Voudou" not "voodoo" this spelling is derogatory. I have been to Haiti many times because I teach French. It is indeed very poor but what the lack in monetary value they make up for in the matters of the soul. Voudou is a religion just like Santeria in Cuba, Umbanda and Candomble in Brazil and Orisa in Trinidad. No-one ever says that Santeria is a devilish religion so leave Haiti alone! Their Creole food is just as Delicious as Martinique's and Louisiana's, their Creole Culture is just as vibrant as Trinidad's as a French and Kreyol speaker I say.
"Viv Ayiti, mwen enmen'w!"

I think of my mother's sister who is a nun in the mountains teaching the unfortunate children basic education. She is a selfless person who gives a lot to the less fortunate and I pray for her safety every day.
