it was not fair, that was not a penalty, the shirt tug was outside the penalty box and the player fell alone inside the box. that was a VERY bad call. Bad reffing Ukraine was cheated

I think Spain would still have won the match, but I do think that foregone or assumed outcomes and results should not influence the giving of penalties. That decision by the referee was a bad one. There was a bad decision made by the referee in the Australia V's Japan game too, though he admitted it afterwards. Bad decisions on the referee's part can and will influence matches. Fifa won't do anything though. I think referee's will be too scared to make decisions against the favoured power house teams. Certain referee's are coming to our attention as making more than normal errors and they should be relegated from the centre position in my opinion if their performance is not acceptable.

At the beginning of the WC the FIFA organization said that the Officiating of each game would be reviewed and any ref that was not officiating in the a professional way would be sent home. What happened here? I have seen too many refs that need to be sent home. And why does the FIFA federation only employ two full time WC refferees? With such an enormous tournament they should definitely review their situation!!

Mastroeni should never have received a red for that tackle. If that was deserving of a red, then most teams would have lost half of their players by now. De Rossi had to go. He should be and likely will be suspended for that elbow. Pope was annoying, but it was two yellows, so it's harder to complain about. In general I think the officiating has been terrible this entire World Cup. On ESPN2, they said that FIFA has been satisfied. Shame on FIFA then. The number of cards has slowed the game down and has rewarded the "divers" and "floppers" for slowing the game down. What FIFA needs to be going after is the "whining". I cannot stand the players that lay on the ground, moaning and making faces like their leg has been amputated and then get right back up when their team has an advantage. That's poor sportsmanship and should be carded every time it occurs.

I think you wright when you said that the referee ruins the reputation of all the referees in that edition of World Cup,because he wasn't fairly correct with Ukraine and we saw that he befriended Spain .But not even the referee was guilty.Ukraine didn't play good, and more, his stars,Schevcenko or Rebov were almost non-existent on the field.

You think that game was bad listen to this: Portugal vs. Netherlands. There were 11 yellow cards and 4 red cards handed out in this game. It was completely ridiculous. One of the Dutch players shoved the Portugal player and they guy wo got shoved didn't even fall down, ok. Then the guy falls to the ground rolling around and screaming in agony. Then the ref gave the other guy a red card!

you also gotta remember these guys are trying to watch 22 players and that is without instant replay. i understand bad calls happen and sometimes an official just is not good enough to call a FIFA match but do keep in mind that it is much harder to ref a game than it looks on the television
